Kask Bambino TT Helmet

Looking at getting a Kask Bambino Helmet
What are you thoughts, do you like it?
Any issues with magnets on visor?

Helmets are so personal in terms of aerodynamics, but in terms of fit and finish it was a very nice helmet and very comfy. I never used it with the shield because I was too worried it would get knocked off and I would get a littering penalty in the race.

I’ve been using one of two years, like it a lot. Alway use visor, no issues…hot, cold, rain, wind. It’s not let me down.

amazon reviews dont sound amazing

.

I’m gonna go ahead and say you can probably ignore those amazon reviews. I owned one for a couple of seasons, big fan, liked how it fit/felt/performed.

In Tri’s I’ve sent the visor flying a couple of times when pulling it off in T2.

The Chrome visor also seemed to start splotching / scratching very soon after (before I sent it flying  ) I had it (like 2 races in) it isn’t super noticeable, but for a +$100 visor, I expected a little more. The helmet itself is very well made though.

I really like the Bambino. Not a big fan of the velcro closure system but that’s my only issue with it.

I just got one and used it for the first time at 70.3 Puerto Rico this weekend. It was very comfortable and I liked being able to give my neck a break and look down every now and then. I didn’t use the visor but overall I would definitely recommend it.

I was planning on buying one until I saw one in the flesh
they are a very poor quality helmet for the price
I cant comment on performance, but the build quality put me off

I went with a Rudy project wing57, which to me, looks better built and more durable
I’m sure people here will say its shit and the aero is crap, meh
.

I got one earlier this year and used it for the first time during a sprint a few weeks ago. Somehow I managed to rip the velcro enclosure system (the helmet uses a velcro enclosure system as compared to a knob system to tighten/loosen) out of the back of the helmet in T1. After spending a few seconds looking at what happened I just tossed the velcro strap on the ground and threw on the helmet. I will probably find a way to permanently fix the velcro enclosure to the helmet before my next race. Otherwise the helmet is very nice and comfortable. I did not use the visor, but I have one and the magnets seem to do a pretty good job keeping it in place irrespective of whether the visor is flipped up or down.

-Wow. I have that on my list for an event this year; I guess I should stick with my Giro Air Attack Shield(?) Visor does not come off (3 magnets). Is the Kasks Bambino as comfortable as Kask road helmets?

I saw maybe 3 visors from Giro air attacks flying in the run in from duplessis in Mont Tremblant. I personally would not wear a visor an prefer shades.

On a side note, I have a mask bambino and I absolutely love it, the only thing that put me off was the velcro closing and putting it on in T1 but other than that, very well made helmet.

great fit. very comfy. the visor sucks. I’ve had two fly off and the magnets come unglued. I don’t use the visor

I really love the idea of a Kask but, based on aero testing, it doesn’t seem like the best option.

What I’m REALLY REALLY REALLY excited about is the new Bontrager Aeulos TT Helmet!! However, I did talk to the Trek Rep last night and he said he has zero idea when it might become available OR if it’ll even be released in the US. He has a feeling it might only release in Europe.

This helmet still might not be as good as longer tailed ones but I, on my uneducated guess, think that the added “tail” would test better than a Kask.

According to the shop I bought mine from (Classic Cycling), some production runs of the Bambino from 2013 had big problems with the magnets. Classic Cycling claims that theirs do not have this issue (http://www.classiccycling.com/kask-bambino-white-medium-p-2497.html?cPath=900_783_769). So I’ve had no problems with mine. The helmet does take a few extra seconds to put on (not an issue for me since I don’t do triathlons), but once on it is very comfortable and the visor works well.

As far as Kask type (no tail) vs tailed, is it possible the tailed helmets are better when you’re completely locked into one position at minimal yaw such a time trial but that when you’re doing a 5 hour ride where you would be in multiple positions (full aero, drinking from a straw (which causes my tail to stick straight up), looking around to pass, etc) and experiencing different wind directions throughout you might be better off with no tail? I’ve been thinking of trying a Kask or an Evade.

This has been debated to no end. As far as I know (and I could just simply not know), there is no definitive answer. If you move around A LOT, look around A LOT, yeah, I would think a no tail would be best.

But this is kinda why I think the Bontrager is perfect (or at least the best that is made). It has the partial tail for when you’re locked in and it’s still snub nose when you’re not.

Is that the Bontrager helmet Cancellara has been wearing at Tirreno-Adriatico this week?

Yep! Confirmed by Trek rep.
