Kashi Go Lean - the new magical fruit

I know what to expect from this crowd but I will ask any way.

My question is will my body build up a tolerance to foods like the Kashi Go Lean cereal and stop generating copious amounts of gas…if so how long do I have to endure?

trying to eat right but this one is not a winner yet. it does taste great though. Two different dietitians recommended it as part of breakfast and snacks…

I doubt it. Doesn’t that cereal have a ton of fiber in it?

Debatable. Are you talking GoLean Crunch or the High Protein & Fiber cereal? If it’s GoLean Crunch you shouldn’t have much of a problem. However, it’s never a bad idea to ‘slowly adjust’ to any foods with high fiber in them if your body is not used to such levels. Either way, you should become more ‘used to’ it and not have as many issues. The big thing is if it’s not disrupting your training with nature breaks. If a significant other is bothered by it, then oh well :).

why would you want to “stop generating copious amounts of gas”?

Haha! I’m experiencing the same ‘effects’ as you are. I really like the Kashi Go-Lean Crunch Honey Almond & Flax, but yes, it is a gas producer. I was eating it every day, but lately I’ve decided to eat it every other day. That has seemed to help a lot.

If you’re expecting a social occasion that evening, I highly recommend skipping the Kashi for breakfast and going with something else instead.

If you’re going for healthy, Kashi has been shown to be comprised of up to 80% GMO’s in some instances. If you’re looking for “organic” cereal stick with oatmeal.

Oh man, that stuff and broccoli make rotten eggs smell like air freshener. I have had luck with digestive enzymes you can buy and to a lesser extent gas-ex which seems to be more of a random timing thing depending on how digestion goes.

Or captain crunch crunch berries

You like drafters?

i am one!

Agreed, keeps people from coming into your office.

GMO’s don’t bother me so much, and oatmeal only sounds good once in a blue moon (usually when it’s cold and rainy outside). Mostly I liked the kashi because of the taste and fiber/protein contents. I have to remind myself to pour about half as much cereal as usual because the stuff is so filling. If I forget I struggle to eat the whole bowl!

i once ate half a box of kashi go lean then later that day went out for a run. worst gas of my entire life. some of my farts required about 8-10 steps to let it all out.

I nominate for post of the year…too funny

I love Kashi Go Lean, it’s like adding a turbo booster

Weird - no gas problems for me. I eat an overly large bowl of Go Lean Crunch almost every morning topped with 1% milk, 1/2 a scoop of protein powder, a large pinch of oats, and blue berries and never have a problem. I only eat it post workout, however.

I gave it a shot for a good month straight. I still buy a box every once in awhile because I love it. Regret soon follows. I eat the shit out of some fiber every day but whatever is in kashi does not agree with me. Too bad.

My wife prohibited me from eating Go lean. The thing is that I like it so much I’d eat it hidden. Of course she always found out I’d been disobeying her…

On the good side I noticed that over the years it has gotten better and even though it still causes gas it is in less quantity and of the less nocive nature…

Same here. It doesn’t bother me at all - no gas at all, which is odd because normally high fiber stuff like oatmeal makes everyone within 10 miles of me sorry that I ate it.

Stop eating glutenous shit fibre and you won’t get gas. If you want “as much protein as an egg” eat an egg. If you want to eat a bowl of sugar for breakfast eat some lucky charms. But seriously, that crap packs a huge bolus of gluten in a “health-foody-crap-tasting” package, that could be a problem for you if you are somewhat sensitive. Switch to a gluten free variety, sans buckwheat cardboard flakes and see if you lose the gas.
