K-Swiss Durability

I’m looking for new shoes and like the fit of the K-Swiss Blade Run Light shoes. Does anyone have feedback on their durability? The only thing that I do not like is the sole on the outside part of the shoe is made up of the “blade” part without any rubber/tread for wear protection. Just wondering if this part of the shoe is susceptible to more wear (especially since that is where my current shoes show the most wear).

Thanks, drn92

I’m pretty happy with the durability of my BLR shoes, however we don’t have the same wear areas. I suggest buying two so you can go between the two.

Not sure about the Blade Run Light, but I am on my third pair of Quicky Blade Lights and am consistently getting about 300 miles out of them…and I’m a somewhat ‘bigger’ runner at 180 pounds.

What a great forum … thanks for the input!

I’m on an even “bigger” side at 200+, but the shoes feel great on my feet so I’ll probably give them a go.

bought some kswiss last fall, switched from saucony, have not had issues but i have yet to wear them… hope that helps

I wear the Kona’s as a trainer and racer. I’m around 185 lbs and find I need to replace them every 300 miles.

I’m just under 170 and got a little more than 300. That seemed low compared to the K-Ona which I would easily get 400-450 out of.

Bought some Blade Lights about a year ago, and roughly about 500Km’s on them. Still good as new. Obviously a bit of wear underneath, but nothing serious. Just bought a second pair for a change in colour ! Wear both in rotation now. Great shoes. Tried the Kwicky Blades, and didn’t like the sole design, too much pressure on my toe box area. Just use them in the gym when doing weights. But otherwise a good shoe as well.

Right around 300 miles for me with kwicky blade lights. Awesome shoe. Will not run in anything else.

I used the K Ona’s and got 475 miles out of them, still looked new at 300. They are pretty well built, if it weren’t for the sole breakdown I would still be using them, no upper wear at all.

I have about 350 on my blade lights and like 320 in my kwickys. They both seem like they could go longer and it’s killing me because I have a new pair of each I bought during the buy one get one sale. I also have the k ruuz I use for shorter runs and speed workouts and they’re great too. I switched from the kinvara last summer.

I am disappointed with the durability of my Kwicky’s. The “blades” are almost gone after less than 200 miles and the upper is about to fall apart. Maybe I just got a bad pair. I will probably race in the QT2’s but won’t train in Kwicky’s anymore. Currently high on Saucony. Between Kinvara, Mirage and Cortana I got every shoe I need. They are durable, comfy and have a low ramp.

I have to agree w/ the folks here. I am on my 3rd pair of Kwikky’s and they seem to wear out faster than the K-Ona’s and other shoes I’ve had. I think 2-250 miles max, then they become my dog walking shoes. The Kwikky’s are definitely a step up in comfort (esp in the upper) than the k-ona’s. Looking forward to the new kwikky’s coming out soon w/ less medial support, which is great for neutral runners. - http://triathlon.competitor.com/2012/02/gear-tech/a-sneak-peek-at-the-new-kwicky-from-k-swiss_48458

Join K-Swiss Fast track team. You can get the shoes cheaper then and promote the company grass roots style.

Thanks … sounds like an idea. However, do they have a slow track team for guys like me?

How do you go about joining?

Here is the webpage and details. Unless they changed their requirments, its more about promoting the products from the ground up then just being fast. I am not that fast but I do compete and spread the word whenever possible. The worst thing they can say is no. The only bad part that I found was you have to buy the package(shoes, clothes, etc) before you can get specific items. Good luck.

I’m on my third pair of BLRs and have had no durability issues at all. Love everything about them except for the fact that little rocks get caught in the blades and drainage holes - not a great shoe for running on gravel/cinder trails.

Can you please elaborate? I am thinking about giving them a try but I have been fighting some metatarsalgia so your comment is of interest to me. Thanks!

I get about 250 miles out of each pair of blade light runs. I am on pair number 7 and 8 right now, and I have pair 9 and 10 in the box in my closet. I love them, and I would highly recommend them if you are a neutral runner.

They did change the requirements. I had a friend that’s not the fastest guy in the world but he does a lot to promote them and has done so for a couple of years. They e-mailed and said you have to be a WC qualifier. I got accepted this year but they make you buy a lot of clothes and a pair of neutral running shoes that I can’t wear. While its cool that they offer anything at all it seems like a way for them to clear some of there stuff before allowing you into the “club”. So I am respectfully declining. Lastly, I have a pair of kwicky blades and the durability is not very good. They feel awesome for about 100-150 miles then they just feel flat. I prefer the saucony mirage. It weighs a little less, is more comfortable and lasts much longer.
