Just when you thought jock itch couldn't get any worse (guys only)

Holy Crap!
There are certain thing that happen when you drive an un-airconditioned car for a couple days in 99+ humid heat. Jock itch is bound to show up.
So been doing the classic, dry off after showers, anti-fungal cream twice a day, ect…
Finally was getting rid of most of the dead skin, so I had a “bright idea”
Let’s start using some “anti-bacterial” soap on it. Nothing super-special, just slightly stronger soap. That should help fix it and prevent it from coming back, right?
WRONG. Sweet lancing frigga $h!+. It took off two or possibly three layers of…um…very sensative skin. Got a little blood on the towl, and has made trying to get any work done a legitimate pain in the super lance.
I’m perplexed, what the hell happened? I didn’t rub extra hard, I wasn’t doing a cervelo bishop action, it just happened.
Now I’m about ready to pull the eye’s out ofthe next person that walks through the door.

Bummer. Just don’t post on the ‘Show us your scars’ thread.

That’s why ya gotta with boxers, or even better comando, in the heat … get some air circulatin’ there.

In 94-99.9 % humidity it wouldn’t have mattered.

Anti-bacterial soap just kills off any bacteria and actually makes more room for the fungus, so anytime you suspect a fungal infection do not use anything anti-bacterial. It will allow the fungus to “grow” and get far far worse.

Sorry you had to learn about it this way. Any pharmacist worth his/her salt would have told you this.

Any pharmacist worth his/her salt would have told you this.

Don’t know about you, but I’m not talking to a pharmacist about my jock itch… Come to think about it, I’m not talking to anyone, except maybe my slowtwitch family;-)

Priceless!

On topic:

Next time leave it alone, don’t scratch, apply a topical anaesthetic if it drives you “nuts”.

(don’t know if your “duties” will make latter a viable option

Try Goldbond’s medicated powder. Keeps you dry and fights the critters down there.

Cervelo bishop action!! ROTFL!!

well, you just have to say you have a fungal thing, tell them it’s yer feet.

Paul Hogan, aka ‘Crocodile Dundee’ might say something like “No worries. Two, three weeks I reckon the little fellar ul fall off all by er self, mate!”

Try a belt sander.

Git 'er done!!!

So, you were waxing yer LANCE, eh?

What lil fellar?

if it makes you feel any better, my dermotologist told me last week that i have an “exotic” (his word) toenail infection (ok, a fungus) that he has never seen before and even the drug companies don’t know how to treat it. he gave me a prescription and said that it might go away in 3-4 months…

Swamp nuts and butt sweat are no fun! But lava nuts is even worse! I’d like to say I feel your pain, but I don’t think I can.

I suffer through the swamp nuts in just an air conditioned desk job. However, I do get quite a taste driving home because I like to think that driving without AC is my way of acclimating.

Good luck!

thats why you shave the ‘taint’
.

Tough-actin’ Tinactin. Yep, the athlete’s foot stuff. Knocks out jock itch in a day. Works for me every time. Don’t settle for Lotramin or any of the other brands. Tinactin works. I’ve used both the aerosol and the pump spray. Both work just the same.

Good luck.

Same here, did they give you the penlac nail laquer stuff? I have been using it for 8 months with little improvement.

AP

we’re hijacking…

yes, they gave me that Penlac stuff, told me to use it for 3-4 months, and if that didn’t work, they will put me on antibiotics for 3-4 months. i do NOT like the idea of long-term antibiotics at all. can’t be good for you.

what do your toenails look like? it’s only my big toenails and they look fairly normal but they have faint white marks near the tips (similar to when you accidentally bend your nail back). i thought they were just damaged from marathon training. also, the corners near the tips tend to break off or fall apart, and i keep fearing that i’m going to get an in-grown toenail b/c of it.

it’s ironic b/c i keep badgering guys like lakercr that they should get professional pedicures b/c nasty feet are disgusting… and then i end up with some rare fungus…

Just for the record, your dermatologist is likely full of hot air. Unless he cultured the nail and you were traveling to some remote God awful place, your onychomycosis (Nail fungus) is caused by 1 or 3 things: Tricophyton rubrum, Tricophyton mentagrophytes, or E. floccosum with the occasional saprophytic mold or Candidia sp.

All fairly easily “treated” and not uncommon at all (at least to me on a daily basis). Lastly, you do not take an “antibiotic” to clear this, but an antifungal. Antibiotics are generally for bacterial infections (via targeting their DNA, RNA, cell wall, etc.). Fungal organisms are animals (just like you and I) and are a little more difficult to erradicate.

The original study sent to the FDA from Dermik (makers of Penlac) showed an 8% mycological cure rate and 20% clinical response). Not very good - but the FDA cleared the way since there are basically no side effects and there is no other topical Rx available. If it makes you feel better, my local rep is a cyclist and occasional multisporter.

Good luck!
