So sad for Dave. Very unfortunate.

Not taking away anything from Lance but he’s got horse shoes. Always amazing how every year it’s always the other guy that crashes.
I’m audio only but it sounds like he may have pulled a foot loose or had a pedal failure.

In theory of DZ wouldn’t have crashed, and CSC finished :02 behind Disco. Would DZ still wear yellow?

I remember when Hinault denied to wear it because his opponent had crashed and didn’t want to not earn it.

Oh the tour…so often she is the cruel mistress. Most unfortunate for DZ as he only had 500m to go and he would’ve been given the same finish time as his teammates. Let’s play “what if?” what if Dave doesn’t crash and loses the TTT by .02 seconds? If he and LA have the same overall time, who gets to wear the maillot jaune? There’s probably some obscure UCI rule, I just don’t know what it is.

Maybe if CSC had won the TTT, but since Discovery won, no chance.
My guess is he retains the yellow untill someone passes his time.
So is Hincapie a threat? or being a teammate does he just play support role?

CSC earned the time bonus for 2nd place but it is only awarded to members who were in contact when the 5th rider crossed the line. Since DZ crashed and did not finish in contact with the team, he is not eligible for the time bonus while other CSC and T-Mobil riders who were only a few seconds down GC prior to the TTT, are now ahead on GC due to the 2nd or 3rd place time bonuses (frown).
Uhmmm 1st place in the time trial gets a bigger time bonus than 2nd or 3rd. So Lance still would have taken the yellow.
I should have picked Liberty Seguros in my top 5; afterall, they are mostly the old ONCE team that always did uqite well in the TTT.

pretty interesting scenario now…Lance has a 55’’ lead…two possibilities…either they try to keep the jersey until the end, which is a big risk as Lance will need his teammates around for the last week, or, what is more likely, they let a bunch go in the next few days…
