Based on Slowman’s pimping the “Retailers” feature in the “Gear West” thread today, I decided to check that feature out.
First, it was difficult to find from the main page. There is no obvious link to the database from the primary link bar across the top. It’s only available from the “Quick Link” box. Took me a while to figure out.
I also eventually realized it was available from going to the “Forum” link, but that’s unintuitive. There seems to be a number of useful things (Stack & Reach, Geometry calc., etc., that are up there on the Forum page. Makes no sense to me, since those things are not forum-related.
And, lastly, I tried to rate my LBS, Moment Cycle Sport, and had a really hard time using the little star thingies. First, they seem to start out showing the current “average” rating instead of being blank. Then when you click on them and do a rating, they don’t seem to reflect what you clicked. Are they updating to the new average based on your rating? I’d rather just see my rating. I’d also like the ability to change it in case I made a mistake. It seems like you have one shot and then your done with the current system. I was clicking on some random ones while testing and fear I may have dicked over some retailers just figuring out how to work the stars. I think they should be consistent with other star rating things like those at Amazon or Netflix.
Just being picky. All-in-all a great site.
