Juice Plus+ - opinions?

Just curious if anyone on ST takes Juice Plus+ and has any opinions. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Bump.

Anybody try this stuff? I do like the concept (ground up veggies and fruits in pills), but the $400 initial price tag along with the direct marketing is VERY unattractive.

Are there comparable products on the market?

Before you say the obvious “just eat more veggies/fruits”, sometimes that simply isn’t possible when I’m in 14 hours of meetings and they cater in pizza…

I like smoothies better and a blender is much easier to clean. A lot of waste is created from juicers as well.

Oops, not sure if what your talking about is a juice machine. Sorry if I misunderstood.

I have a conflict. I sell the stuff and make a whopping $20 a month, mostly on what I buy for myself and my family, but a have a couple of patients who use it. I started when I realized how difficult it is to reliably eat 5 or more servings of fruit and veggies per day, on my schedule.

It ain’t cheap, but it’s not terrible. It runs about $130 per month, but we take half doses. I take more when I’m doing hard training. It makes more sense than vitamins. The have some studies, but I don’t think they are all that great.

I would say take them if you aren’t consuming enough fruits and veggies, but if you already eat a lot of f&v, skip it.

Doc -

Which do you take? Veggies or fruit? How many and when?

Is is possible to buy without having to opt in for the minimum? If memory serves correct, it’s $400 to start, right? I’m not complaining about the cost as much as I’m not convinced that it’s the right product for me. $400 is a steap learning curve. That’s not even 1/2 of a new Zipp aerobar! ;o)

Any similar products on the market?

Thanks!

$400 to start out??

I started taking Juice+ about a year ago and never had to pay that fee. I just placed my order for the first order, and I think it was $60 or $70 bucks. That’s it. I pay as I go. I get the veggie and juice pills. I think it runs me about $40 a month.

I have been taking this product for 2 years. 2 fruit pills in the morning, 2 veggie pills in the evening. It costs me $56 or $58 (CAN) per month. They send me 3 months worth of product at a time.

There was a period for 6 weeks that I did not take it. I had moved and my shipment was lost from my own address error. They did not charge me, in fact they refunded my credit card when the shipment was returned which I felt was great service. Coincidentally I got very sick then. Personal belief is I would have gotten sick anyway but maybe not to the point of severe bronchitis.

I also take Isagenix Supreme fruit drink in the mrning. It is a shot, over ice, of some funky high octane fruit mix. I have found during my current heavy-heavy last training block before IMC that this extra fruit boost has had lively effect on my energy.

Only other supplement I take are my recovery protein shakes after hard workouts.

Last, I do not sell either of these products so this is not an advertisement.

MY wife and kids have issues swallowing large capsules, so we have the chewables. I take 2 of each (fruit and veg) daily, usually in the evening, and after big workouts.

I’ll try to remember to check out the minimum, but I think 3 months is the minimum. I can’t remember, but there might be a money back guarantee.???

When I first heard of this I was sure it was bunk. However, when I learned it was the actual fruits and vegetables rather than factory facsimiles my stand softened a bit. A bit. There is a school of thought (I"m no expert and too lazy to look it up) that you don’t get the full benefit of vitamins and minerals without going through the digestive process. Do you really get the same benefit from digesting that pill as from an apple? I realise there is a lot of science behind the juice plus, maybe they have it figured out.

Anyway for the money I just eat the fruits and veg. I shifted more to a Paleo Diet about 3 months ago, can’t say I am strict about it. But I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to eat the fruits and veg once it becomes a habit. Eat the real thing. The plum and the nectarine are much more satisfying than the pill.

Take a look at a product called Nanogreens. Much the same thing but comes in a powder that you can blend into smoothies or mix with juice. You can see the products here: http://www.naturaleyecare.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=1745

Take a look at http://www.ithelpedme.com/. Dr. French does some functional wellness including selling purified fish oils, the Nanogreens and other stuff. From what I understand, Nanogreens can only be ordered by health professionals. I have been really happy with the stuff.

another supposed “wonder product” is MonaVie

made with acai berry and all natural fruit juices. You drink a little bit every day, about a shot glass, tastes alright. Expensive though.
Not sure that it works as I am naturally VERY skeptical of these kind of things. My mother-in-law is distibuting it and she gave me a couple of bottles for free.
Now, I have to admit though that the times I took it seemed to coincide with times when my overall mood and energy levels were** much** improved.
Maybe there is something to it…

I started taking MonaVie three weeks ago and like you, i am naturally skeptical of these things…especially when you can “profit” from selling the product to your friends. My chiro has been taking it and noticed a significant increase in energy. I don’t know if I’m experiencing the placebo effect or something else, but I have definitely had an increase in energy and my recovery time has improved as well. Again, this could all just be because my training is finally coming together, but I PR’d a half ironman race last weekend by over 20 minutes and felt rested and ready to train again less than a day later.

Agreed!

“…and all natural fruit juices”
Which are really just water and sugar. The good part of the fruit usually ends up in the can, unless it’s just liquified fruit.

The placebo effect is alive and well.

I think I will give it another try as soon as I can get another bottle (tonight). I regularly come down with bouts of depression and fatigue - am in the middle of a bad one right now - and it just seems that I didn’t at all while I was drinking the juice.
Well worth another try.

.

the ingredients are on the bottle and there is no water or sugar;

sure, placebo effect is a great thing but that goes for your juice+ as well
.

True…but I’ll attribute the placebo effect with getting me a Kona slot! Perhaps next year I’ll have to find some other pyramid scheme vitamins!

Natural unsweetened juice has MORE sugar (and more calories) that coca cola. I view it as Kool Aid with a few drops of vitamins. Eat the fruit, skip the juice.

You’ll notice that I did not say that Juice Plus was NOT a placebo. You’ll also notice that, unlike most JP providers, who may make hundreds or more, per month, I average around $20 per month ‘commission,’ at least half of that is what I purchase myself. I’m pretty sure I’m their lowest seller.
