Judging progress via hr/watts for same workout within a year

I had done a workout indoor/zwift , giving me a avg hr 117 and avg pwr 150
Last year was 109 hr and 131 pwr on same workout

Even though it’s gone up by almost 20 for power , hr risen by 8
I’m trying to see how much progression there is and
Wether the jump in hr is too much
I know ftp tests are a metric to go by but I have done many different ones in the past and haven’t had a coach in a long time
.

What about the PRE on those efforts? Same, higher, lower? What about what you’re doing day in day out? is that at a higher power as well. Looking at 1 workout is seeing the tree but missing the forest.

HR is the strain on your body from the power which is what your body is doing.

Indoors HR can fluctuate. If you look at my situation it’s >100F every day where I live. My workout room doesn’t get as cool as it does in the winter. It probably never gets cooler than about 70 in there in the summer, even w/ the AC, a ceiling fan and a 5000 cfm fan blowing on me. In the winter open the doors and can get it down to < 50 inside. My HR will be lower for the same or greater effort in the winter. Cooling or a lack of will impact hr indoors.

Go back and review everything, power, day in day out power, HRs, PREs, then look at it holistically not just at a one off event.

Hope that helps
