Jog Stroller combo VS Stroller/Trailer

I’m looking for advice on jogging strollers, kid trailers, and combinations of the two.

Would I notice a huge difference jogging with a trailer/stoller combo vs a model that’s designed only to be a jogging stroller?

It seems like the Burley and BOB models are excellent, but they’re pretty pricey. Anyone have any experience with the Schwinn M111 ($200): http://tinyurl.com/6

The high end jogging strollers are much more finely balanced and easier to run with. They also usually have larger tires. These will more than likely be better jog strollers than a trailer/stroller combo. The low to mid-range strollers more closely resemble the trailers in weight and tire sizes.

FWIW - I had one of both and actually liked running with the mid-range setup. I could lean on the handlebar more when I got tired! The high-end one would pop a wheelie if I put more than a few pounds of pressure on the handlebar.

If you are considering a combo, go with the chariot… nothing else comes close. One benefit of the combo design is that they are in there own zipped in cockpit where you can give them toys and such…
The Chariot CX is extremely expensive, but is the best combo on the market.

I second the Chariot…I have the cheapest model (Cheetah) and it is awesome and my daughter loves it. By far the best out there, IMHO.

For a convertable, you are basically choosing from either the Burley D’Lite or one of the Chariot models.

We got a Burley, cuz I got a sweet closeout deal from Performance, less a 20% coupon, less my 10% Team discount. I actually ended up getting it at my LBS guy’s cost (I know, cuz he was gonna sell one he had to me at just a few bucks more), less the 10% credit. Couldn’t pass that deal up. We love it.

The Chariot is more stylie, and probably quicker to assemble/disassemble.

The Burley is only OK to run with, it’s a much better bike trailer than jog stroller.

Look at eBay for the older “Baby Jogger” brand. I bought a 2-yr old model twin/double jogger for 1/4 the retail price new. It was in great shape. I just needed to put the canvas body in the laundry once. The Baby Jogger brand are nicely balanced, and use 20" wheels which are great for trails, imperfections in the road and curbs. The kids are secured with a 5-point harness too. I also received as a gift Trek’s Deluxe Trailer/jogger before they changed the design. It is much heavier and wider than the jogger. I use it primarily as a trailer. I have seen the Chariot line at REI and they look great. In fact my local Trek dealer only carries the Chariot line. I would recommend that you look at its versatility. Is it only going to be used as a jogger and/or trailer use? Do you plan to use it as a stroller too? Is it for one child, or are you planning for second? Then maybe a double would be in order? Whatever brand you decide to go with, I would recommend that you get the biggest wheels available. It makes for a smoother ride for the little ones on the back.

Have fun.

I think Cervelo is going to be coming out with a very high modulus carbon fiber stroller, and Zipp will soon be releasing special 202 wheelsets for the strollers which will have at PT in the hub, so you can convert your handicapped stroller times to regular times. LG also has a special aerodynamic helmet for the baby.

Look North, to Mountain Equipment Co-op, they have a self branded double for $279 CDN + $49 CDN for the jogging kit.

Or a single for $249 CDN + $49 CDN for the jogging kit.

There was a time when that would have been worth about $10 US, but now the loonie is going around $0.85 US.

I can’t speak to the quality, since I don’t have one myself, but I think these are less than half the cost of a Chariot, so may be a good budget choice. I’m also probably going to buy something in the next couple of weeks, I’m just not sure what brand though (all I know for sure is that it will be a double).

I have a Chariot CX and like it a lot. The covered area is also good as you can run in a greater variety of weather.

the MEC version is ‘reportedly’ built by Chariot and I almost bought it but it is heavier and my wife didn’t like the colour (I am not kidding). Also I think there was no single, just a double when I was looking.
