Hi,
I’m using the Annual Traning Plan based on Joe Friel’s books.
I have a small question.
For the traning weekly hours, is the strenght traning is included or the weekly hours or strickly for running and biking? (I do duathlon).
Thank you

As far as I know the strength is training is included in the weekly hours. Friel is big on strength training in the prep and early base periods and once you get into the late base and build periods he really only recommends one 45min strength maintenance session a week. So that shouldn’t have a very large affect on your weekly hours.
Yep its included.

Why?
I train to be in shape and I do duathlon for fun.
I don’t have a coach.
So, I need some guidance and Joe Friel’ books give exactly that.
Do you have any other suggestion to get an ATP?

But, since I can train only 4 hours a week, 45min it’s almost 20% of total training time.
If your only training 4 hours a week then I wouldn’t dedicate an entire session to strength training. It should typically be 5%-10% of your total weekly volume. which would be around 15-20min a week. instead I would work in some core strength and body weight exercises when you have a few minutes like before bed or in front of the TV.

I don’t have an issue with him, but there are usually folks here who trash him when he’s mentioned. Search for his name.

Joe emphasizes certain things that he believes will be beneficial that a lot of folks here don’t agree with. I have enjoyed reading his books and think that he is a great coach with a very well-thought plan for organizing training. However; I have learned to think less like a triathlete and more like a running, swimmining biker. For a duathlete, I would recommend Training and Racing with Power (if you have a power meter) and Daniels Running Formula.
Unlike most who bash him, I have had the privilage of being coached by him (was somewhat cheaper in those days - can’t afford him now :-(). Most excellent coach. I posted some truly excellent results when he was my coach.
Yes, strength training is included in the weekly hours and if you want to calculate your overall training stress for the week.
