Not lots of Elite “funny bikes” around:

Good way to get low!

Even fewer from Naples, FL… could be.
No, not Joe’s. Joe’s Elite is red and silver and still here in the garage. This is a Magnus, Joe’s is a razor. We do know the seller, it is legit.

Doesn’t Joe’s have an even bigger drop also?

.
Why no aero helmet?
Sue,
Cool Pic. Any chance of getting the drag #'s posted for the forum to see. I know it would be awesome to see, others such as Ashburn would probably be interested too. Did he ever get tested on the Trek too?
Thanks,
Sean
I gotta ask…why a 700/650 combo?
Funny bikes are to get the front end lower. They are not as common nowadays with integrated head tubes and short head tubes. I think that the Nishiki funny bike that Joe Bonness rode prior to the Elite had a 24" front wheel.
Why no aero helmet? Joe doesn’t ride with an aero helmut. He was testing the difference between race equipment. He was more interested in comparing drag from bottles, frame, front or rear. Wheels, solid disc, blades or deep rims.
Why 700/650s? I believe to increase the drop.
He did not have the Trek TT when we visited the Wind Tunnel. It would have been very interesting.
I don’t have the drag figures here, but some pretty well know triathletes were there when his testing was done. Without dropping names, they were impressed. One said it was the lowest drag they’ve from on a man.
If you are interested in the numbers, I can get them when Joe gets home. Should be around 8pm.

Doesn’t suprise me at all. just about every race i do I get out of the water ahead of Joe and he comes gliding by me. I am always blown away at how low and aerodynamic he is and how effortlessly he passes me and rides away into the sunset. I can’t duplicate it though. my back and neck won’t allow it.
