Joe Blow pump with Smart Head: disc adaptor?

Hmmmm seems my JB with smart head won’t quite fit into my Zipp disc. Anyone have suggestions on an aftermarket chuck that mates well with the JB? The head obviously already sits at a 90 so I’m wondering if they make a low profile direct fit where I unscrew the factory smart head?

crack pipe, or something similar

get the lezyne slip chuck, it’s awesome if you have a disc!

That looks like a replacement head…correct? Not an inline crack pipe? That’s what I’d ideally like to do is swap out the factory fitting and leave something like that on permanently.

Are you using that on a Lezyne pump? Just ask b/c the site I just checked said ‘for Lezyne pumps only’.

the shop i use has one and now that you mention it, i think it’s on a lezyne pump so you may be correct in assuming it’s not compatible with your JB. that established, it does away with your issue and is definitely worth investing in a lezyne pump.

Just get a crack pipe.

Why would you want to change your pump head just for one wheel? Use the crack pipe, whose very purpose is for the disc, and takes all the more of 5 seconds:

  • Pop the crack pipe into pump head,
  • tighten,
  • insert crack pipe into disk hole,
  • start pumping.

.

For one I don’t currently have a crack pipe and I thought if for the same price I could get a direct fit that would be nice rather than dropping the crack pipe in…one less piece to lose or keep track of. And the Lezyne wouldn’t be for just one wheel, it would stay on and I’d use it for all wheels. If it would work for the disc it would work for all…vs bringing my crack pipe out for each disc pump up.

I can alleviate all 4 crack pipe steps above into one step:

-pump up any wheel, any time with the Lezyne fitting

Make sense?

I got the Joe Blow pump because it supposedly worked great with disc’s, but it barely fit my Hed Jet disc.

I got the Silca 40.0 adapter and have been quite happy with it.

I understand what your are saying but note that pump heads that are meant for disc wheels do not have a “tigthening” lever or option (at least those that I saw) because the disc hole does not allow these levers to move. As such, pumping discs sometimes requires a friendly hand to hold the head in place during the pumping motion to avoid the head from popping out. You can certainly use these heads to pump regular wheels but at the disadvantage of the head popping out while pumping.

.

Oh I see what you are saying gotcha.

Well, fortunately for me I’m an ‘olden fart’ from many many moons ago. I grew up using a Silca track pump and am quite used to using my big/2nd toe to hold the chucks in while I pump;) When these lockable pump heads came out I didn’t even blink until I gave my 20+ year old Silca track away last year for the JB.

I’m an old fart myself and I actually have a couple of those Silca track pumps lying around. There is still a demand for those from other farts because those are the simplest pumps to maintain and they last for years. Anyway, let me know if the Lyzene head works out. I am curious myself.

I’m able to get the Silca 40.0 to lock onto the stem with a Hed Jet disc, so it can be done without hands.

Just found out from Topeak and apparently they get that question a lot. ‘Negative Ghost Rider’. So, I’m hunting for the lockable Silca 40, but might end up with a Silca 25. Lezyne is off the radar dangit.

What I love about my Joe Blow is that I have been able to use with both my discs without using a crack pipe. This is with a Renn 575 and a Flo disc.

Not sure which disc you have but you might be able to. You do have to use the correct length stem and sometimes bend it out a little. My Joe blow also works with my H3 and all other wheels without a problem.

Otherwise, can’t really be any help.
