Jockey wheels

We’ve been looking around for a few sets of sealed bearing jockey wheels (as an upgrade to the bushing-based jockey wheels on ultegra 11-speed rear derailleurs). I’ve had good luck with non-ceramic bearing Tacx replacement jockey wheels in the past. But most available available right now seem to be “9/10 speed compatible” models. I know that the cassette cog thickness is the same for 10 speed and 11 speed shimano (verified by my calipers). But the outer width and the outer plates of the 11-speed chain are thinner than 10-speed. So, any pluses or minuses to using these 9/10 speed jockey wheels on a shimano 11-speed set up? Or, any links to some 11-speed compatible sealed bearing jockey wheels, ones that are currently available?

thanks !

I’m pretty sure the Dura-ace bearings are sealed.

I’m pretty sure the Dura-ace bearings are sealed.

Correct.

But the utegra are not. And that’s what we have.

check out Hawk Racing jockey wheels. They are 10/11 speed compatible and work pretty well. I have them on my set-up are they are def. smoother than the Ultegra ones were.

Thanks for the tip. But going to their website, while the pulleys have 11 teeth, they are listed as just shimano 8/9/10 speed compatible. Do you have a different set?

you are right, I guess they only have them for in 11 speed for Campy. Not sure where I saw 11 speed at for the Hawk wheels. I have them on a 10-sp set-up. I checked and Enduro def. has an 11 speed option. http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id408.html. I was looking at those as well when I bought the Hawk racing ones

“Upgrade”? How many literal milliwatts do you think you could save? :-/

not looking to save milliwatts, just ease of maintenance.

Got any leads?

I was suggesting you get Dura-Ace pulleys. They will fit perfectly. I did it with my Ultegra when I wore the first set of pulleys out.

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense.

But I was also wondering if there might be some other aftermarket options available, but maybe non-ceramic.
