Jelle Geens

I like this guy, interesting to see how he does moving to mid distance. Marten Van Riel (another very likable guy) is doing very well in the T100

He’s not really set the world alight yet as say the Norwegians or MVR, not sure he’ll ever be on their level, im waited for all the French to come up, FPS, great on the bike and run!

Vincent Luis just had his position done on his TT bike at same time as GTB.

Le Corre is coming, we saw him with a TT bike.

Exciting MD times next season.

Oh, really hope GTB doesn’t make the move. She is younger than Louis and judging on current form could be a contender in LA

We’ll see how Geens goes on Saturday. He’ll need to climb well.
Think he is a faster runner than Van Riel (eg Hamburg sprint 5km in sub 14).
He’ll be heading for Taupo. #4 #3 #2 in his 70.3s already this year.
Some may recall his threat on the run resulted in Long overbiking at Oceanside during the latter’s shortlived 2024 ā€˜purple patch’ (Miami O’side, Singers, St George)
Decent races here and Taupo will get him a 11-16 T100 contract for next year.
Geens is 31 this year.

He used to be a top 5 sort of ITU runner and was podium quite regularly, was it pre covid? Something happened and hes struggled since.

The first year of a new Olympic cycle you generally see athletes having fun and mixing it up a little bit as they have more freedom from the national federations.

We didn’t see it much last cycle as it was reduced to 3 years.

Since covid he became a dad, and the ITU swims went to another level that he wasnt able to reach. In draft legal at the moment, if you aren’t in the pack you likely can’t catch up and bleed time to the front.

Im not so sure about that, Yee and Wilde have always struggled to make that front pack (only this year they’ve start to come out near the front really) since covid and don’t have any trouble making podiums.

Geens run dropped off also, he was like the new Mola at one point, he’s been very hit and more miss since covid.

I see Bitados ran very well in the World U23s today.
He took 3 minutes off Geens (21km) to win 70.3 Tallinn earlier this year.

Geens crushing it round the golf course.
35 points will earn him a start in the ā€˜Grand Final’ in Dubai.
And a month later: Taupo!!

What a great performance. Good to see him back in form.

As i have said previously his ITU results are result of the swim going to another level which he couldn’t match so was never in a pack with the faster riders. Some chase pack guys are often stronger on bike than some of the front pack sitters, but with fewer to work with it is a hard slog.

My estimate (mental math) suggests that Geens will move to #11 in the PTO Rankings, and is assured of a Tranche 2 offer of a T100 contract in 2025 (as even if other move up he’ll still be top 16).
His 35 points (as said ^^) will get him a start in Dubai.

I disagree with this, the bike has usually always came together with the men and I dont think the swim has got faster, I think his run has just never recovered from pre covid levels (when I ā€˜think’ he was podiuming regularly)

Or the run just got faster (at his peak I think he’d be competitive with Yee and Wilde, but they’d probably have outran him at some point.

We heard from Dylan (PTO) that Geens would not get a start in Dubai.
So Taupo it is.

I keep reading that as ā€œJelly Greensā€ and thinking that AG1 has moved into gummies of some sort?
