Jeff Bezos to dismantle historic Dutch bridge for $450 million yacht

This dude is funny.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/jeff-bezos-dismantle-dutch-bridge-yacht

so the “maritime capital of Europe” didn’t anticipate a clearance issue with one of its most visible builds

mmkay
.

Another story says the sails are so big there isn’t room to land a helicopter on the ship so Bezos will have a support yacht trail the ship for helicopter access.

NL has gazillion bridges, a lot of them are old and need replacement.
Dutch have build the freaking thing behind the bridge, so they probably aware of existence of bridges in their own country.

Most probably it was all agreed upfront by Dutch builders and their own country officials and NL just gets a discount on a new bridge. And Bezos may be was not even aware of this “historical atrocity”

Support yacht is the wealthiest thing I’ve ever heard.

This^^^^.

But then it is not a News story.

Skip the Dutch builders get it built in Korea and then to Italy for the interiors like the leather, wood, stone work etc.

a year from now this will all be water under the bridge
.

+3!!!

a year from now the yacht will be under the bridge

FIFY.

I’m surprised he didn’t just buy the Netherlands.

This funny guy’s newspaper did not run on this for the obvious reason that there is little news value in this yacht story. They did however run a story on his ex wife. She is doing her best hide from the public the fact that she is a major philanthropist. the recipients of her largess however are not being so private. The latest gifting to
"Communities In Schools, a network of nonprofit groups that work in K-12 schools across the country, said Thursday that the national office and its affiliates had been given $133.5 million from Scott, the billionaire philanthropist who has been doling out her fortune at an astounding rate. Since divorcing from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Scott has made donations of more than $8 billion. (Bezos owns The Washington Post.) " from:

No, they did run it:

Fun fact about Bezo’s wealth of ~$198 billion.

Imagine that each step of a staircase represented $100,000 in the bank.

Half of the US and 90% of the world aren’t even at the first step. Only 10% of the US are at the 10th step.

If you climb about 1 step a second, it would take you 9 hours a day of climbing for 2 months to get to where Bezos is.

Wait, based on your analogy, are you saying that 10% of Americans have a million bucks in the bank? Really?

These are called yacht tenders. They carry supplies for the “boss”. Extra food, equipment, cleaning staff etc, things that are unsightly but necessary for the main yacht operation. They generally stay out of sight, approaching as needed. They can be quite elegant and yacht like.

The authors’ say that 90% of Americans drop out. (Hence my 10%).

The book is about making numbers resonate w/examples. It may not literally be a balance in a bank account, but some idea of total wealth. Clearly Bezos doesn’t have his $198B in a bank account. Do 10% of Americans have a million worth of assets counted loosely? Maybe.

edit - quick google hit shows that 8.8% of adult US Americans are millionaires.

So I did not see it in my print copy ( A and D section reader only) and just now used the search query in the online paper with “Rotterdam bridge and Bezos” and it comes up with zero entries found. Faced with your correction input however, I submit my retraction. That picture , headline and 2 sentences captured the entirety of this news. And here I thought that boogeyman Bezos had his censor’s hard at work (pink).

That’s totally true, but I haven’t seen too many tenders with their own helipads - but then again, I don’t hang with billionaires all that much.

Paul Allen’s neighbors were upset that he was landing his helicopter in his back yard on Mercer Island. So he ended up building a boat that would drive out into the lake for his helicopter to land on. Then the boat drives him to his dock in his back yard. So he had a whole crew on standby at his home to drive this boat out to meet him. And then to drive his the boat out if he wanted to fly out.
