I’m struggling to find jammers that fit my small waist but don’t fell like they’re cutting off all circulation in my legs. There must be other cyclist types who have big quads, what do you use? Do you just size up and cinch the drawstring at your waist? And no, I’m not really interested in square legs. Why don’t they make jammers with elastic leg bands like tri-shorts?
I just buy a size up so they fit my quads and tie them tight with the drawstring. I’ve tried both TYR and Speedo jammers and they fit about the same.
I usually don’t tie them tight until right before I get in the pool. Occasionally at morning masters practice I’ve forgotten to tie them and they felt like they were going to come off the first time I pushed off!
I’ve actually had more problems with tri shorts. Our club kit is made my Champion Systems and their tri shorts are extremely tight in the legs.
People with big waist to quad ratios don’t wear jammers. Briefs.
Elastic leg bands are destroyed quickly by pool chlorination.
I shake my head when I see triathletes wearing $100 tri shorts in the pool. They will be stretched to shit in 6 months.
My two $20 Speedo Endurance suits are like new after 5 years.
I have a 31-32 waist and 24.5" quads. Had some sugoi RPM’s that were tight but loosened up over time. The downside was the shitty drawstring. I got a pair of Speedo Endurance in a 32 but there was no chance of them fitting over my legs. I sized up to a 34 and just bring in the drawstring and that works fine.
I like the Speedo Aquablades, and they seem kinder to body shape (waist through the legs). They are not the longest lasting jammers but boy do they glide through the water nicely. Their endurance jammers are good too, and last longer, but tend to constrict more. The Aquablade is a superb suit.
Take it easy on me… two years ago I was wearing board shorts and struggling to make it 50 yards
Some day I’ll be that ripped middle aged dad who can pull off swim briefs… but not quite yet.
Then keep rocking the board shorts. Seriously, I do a lot of workouts in them. They’re cheap and durable. And it’s fun passing people in speedos while wearing them.

Mine last around 1 year before the seams turn completely white and blow out. I guess I need to rinse them out better.
5 years for speedo endurance? I get maybe a year. Do you wash them with elephant tears or something? Like you said though, for $20 I’m in until they discontinue the line.

It all depends on how much you swim; i swim about 350 days/yr, so my Speedo Endurance briefs last 6 months at best, rinsing or no rinsing. Right now, my current suit is on its last leg and i still hope to use it another 10 days to make it to 26 weeks/6 months. I’ve already got a new one lined up in the queue:)
I’ve got 233 swims in my drag suit and it looks like new.
Ummm, i need all the speed i can possibly get so i never wear a “drag suit”. That said, i don’t really care for wearing the “cut-off wetsuit” rubber shorts made by Roka or Lava either, so i just stick with the basic Speedo:)

I’d estimate I swim 150 days/yr and I rotate the two suits.
How fast do you think you’d burn through a pair of tri shorts? About a month?

I don’t know b/c i never swim in tri shorts, only wear them when riding the bike. I don’t even like to wear them when running, much prefer old school split running shorts. In races, i almost always just wear a Speedo and a shirt if needed.
