It’s also bizarre that in order to reinforce the point on Blu’s lost weight, Ditlev has allegedly gained some and that’s healthy - opposed to it being unhealthy to lose a few kg?
Yup and Sam long !!! Like shit we are trying to predict a one day performance on the biggest stage based on your insta photo and if you look lean. Show me a fat Ironman world champ .
To be fair, poor Blu can’t win. Damned if he looks big (he has a massive ribcage regardless) and damned if he looks skinnier.
Hope he wins and shuts them all up
I mean I never said he was heavy before or too lean now just topics are so boring . Like can we research the guys coming up rather and get to know the 20 new guys rather than discussing who we know.
I don’t do superficial Cliff notes. I personally like all the details on such an important topics
But I can help you find it. Jack interviewed him I think twice. If you relisten, bonus : you get to listen to Jack . There is only about 4 hours of content
And BTW, weight loss in endurance athletes is a hot topic these days for very specific reasons. I suspect you will hear more and more of it.
I have been here for 20 + years. It’s always been there these things just recycled
Wt was a thing with Peter Reid . Macca , Christie was so lean.
Next year we will talk about over training in the heat once back to kona .
Again show me an over wt Ironman would champ , this sport is a lean body mass sport .
Not as bad as running but it’s the easiest way to improve and win so of course people chase it .
Also just because someone is lean or leaner than before doesn’t mean they don’t get hurt or burnt out. Fat people have these problems to they just are not discussed.
What is the the one variable every pro triathlete has in common under 9% body fat and a massive amount of hours .
So is it the stress or the wt , could be both but these problems happen in over weight people with little to no hours a week of training.
Kelly does this kind of thing all the time. Pretending he wants to be serious, not stir shit, etc. Unfortunately he seems to live to insert himself in any kind of drama and therefore he cannot resist it
no it is not it needs to be handled very carefuly.
of course it is important to some extend but it needs to be the right balance.
so yes weight is important to performace but to have enough energy is just as important .
and yes one can do both but easy it is not ( not terribly difficult either )
If Bu is successful, some will feel this is the way to go.
Just like when PFP won. A big concern is the message it sends.
But she had full medical support and most likely knew what she was doing.
Some people are still using the “20 year ago method” and probably do more harm than good to try and copy.
well Lionel can balance out the message and lets not forget Blum did win a lot of stuff when he was heavier.
but of course weight is an important factor in Nice, for the climbs .
unlike a few years ago people are way more aware about reds etc ( minus some Canadian pros) people are also way more aware nowadays that they have to fuel proper.
personally I think weight should not be tabu it needs to be more talked about and educated what is good and what not. and the timing is important
If blu wins it should be rather the fact that he has been the favourite the last 11 months he has looked like the best to win no matter this mass, lean mass, body fat%.
If he loses you people will blame his wt but he lost in kona too , it happens. No one picked Lange to win kona .
This sport relies on the winner now to be extreme to have to win but you can win but not for ever.
The wins are to hard to come by on the human body.
It will get worse just like running and cycling as the money grows .
In race car driving the cars have to all weight the same amount. So they add weights to lighter drivers cars to make to far.
In human sports the number one thing that makes some really shitty skilled people be able to compete is only the wt equation. Especially running , And the best also have to play that game as the longer you carry the extra work the harder to is . This is called competition it isn’t healthy but that’s how many win.
So are we proposing that everyone has to weigh the same for an Ironman/marathon? I can just picture some kenyan with a 50kg weight vest to match the weight of others
Yes that’s the point if you gave a 125 lb Kenyan a 50 lbs wt vest how do think he would do .
V02 is mg / ml /min so which variable all of a sudden isn’t very good .
And how do those legs feel with 50 lbs more load each landing.
Body wt / bmi is the number one factor in endurance sport you think Jan won because he is a fat lazy guy that didn’t count even little gram of wt.
You can on a bike calculate watts per kg which shows your skill.
Yet a big guy can beat you on the flats at a lower watts per kg , just total watts , kallen and that other big guy that’s always hurt for e.g . Patrick Lange and clemont and Leon and Gustav have a much higher watts per kg , ( skill level). On hilly courses they keep up or pass going up.
Running if you get faster with wt Lose it was wt not skill . If you hold your wt and get faster it was skill or increase muscle strength and bounce reflex.
You can calculate how much your wt helps or hurts you it is not hard and if you lose wt and hold power that’s a big win, if you lose power you might still be faster on a course like nice but also run better off the bike and not be effected by heat etc
The biggest variable to increase performance sadly or not in endurance is and will always be bmi / bf% . Kind of go hand in hand but a few other variables and factors involved.
