J-Lo kicked it at the Malibu triathlon

2 hours, 23 min finish. How many newbies out there can claim that kind of time?

According to the newspaper, Lopez “can add hardcore athlete to her resume”.

She raised $127K for charity.

Maybe I should tell her that $1K in donations gets her into an IM charity slot.

Side note - what was that shirt she wore on the bike? T-shirt with sleeves cut off?

Her time wasn’t really impressive (would have been good for about 100/120 AG assuming she is 30-34), so I would say that a lot of newbies could do it. But her fund raising was awesome and I’m sure her participation will get even more people into the sport. So although the media attention might seem ridiculous and overblown, it’s only good for our sport when celebs decide to give it a go. Who knows, maybe she’ll become a triathlon addict. Of course if she does, at some point she will probably have to abide by the rules…

Jodi

2 hours, 23 minutes for a sprint triathlon.

just looking at a generic local race that was held here in ottawa, she would have come 2nd last.

she would have beaten this woman by less than 2 minutes:

obviously there may be course differences, etc., but 2:23 for being a newbie is not that impressive.

like jodi says, though, there are much more impressive metrics - like how much money she raised.

I fairness it is a 1/2 mile swim, 18mile bike, and a 4 mile run - so it is a pretty long ‘sprint’. The time is average but I’d be interested in her splits.

BTW what was against the rules?

the entire event raised $127k.

She had outside assistance for almost the whole race, as was mentioned in another thread. Completely to be expected for a celeb of her status, but not something that would be tolerated if this was more than a one-time thing.

Jodi

Beyond the obvious ‘keep crazy fans away’ assistance, that is probably needed, what kind of assistance would she need, after preparing for this stuff with a personal trainer and all the help in the world?

what did she ride?

Make up artist to touch up after the swim?

I think these people get so used to having every little thing done for them that they become helpless on their own. I’m not sure exactly what her helper did for her, but from watching the video he at least swam with her. The other thread has more info from someone who was there.

Jodi

Don’t be fooled by the outside assistance she got. She’s still, she’s still Jenny from the block.

Do I owe her “cause” $100? I said I’d give her charity $100 if she finished any better than MOP. I’m not sure but I feel confident that my C note will be going toward shoes.

If the whole event only raised $127K for charity, that is despicable.
Considering the wealth of the gathered celebs. Hell, J-Lo probably spent that much on a designer tri-outfit. No mention of her post-race party.

BTW…This thread is useless without pics. Eliza Dushko??

Give her some credit, she has the money and the means to do nothing but sit at home and do coke and have sex all day, which many people do when they are rich and don’t have to work.

Instead, she got off her butt and raised a few bucks for a good cause. Even if she did it for the attention, its still a good thing.

give her some credit!

Its her money that she earned and she can spend it how she wants.

The responses in threads like this are so damn juvenile and smell of jealousy that it’s pretty sad. The responses make me remember the quote: “Cynics do not contribute and skeptics do not achieve.”

Why must we be so damn critical of this woman’s effort? And, why does everyone care? Are you lives lacking such meaning that you denegrate someone for TRYING?

And I know someone will pull up the “Well, she’s a celebrity, so she deserves to be crioticized” bullshit…No, she’s a human, trying something new.

Damn, I’d hate to see what you’d say about those at the paralympics who finish last or perhaps those who merely give the effort?

What if your kid did 2:23 in a Sprint Tri,. would you be so critical and would you say it to their face?

Kudos to her for getting out there and doing it. Her time was not impressive at all and she finished last in her group of celebrity women. I’ve got to wonder what she was doing for more than 6 minutes in T1. Probably had to hide behind something to shield her from having any potentially embarrassing photos by the ever present paparazzi.

To put her time in perspective, Andy Baldwin (The Bachelor) finished in 1:30, Matthew McConaughey finished in 1:43, and among the 20 celebrities who raced individually, she finished 19th. She had the slowest bike time and the overall longest transition time of any of the 20.

It was great she raised some money for charity. However, let’s be honest - her performance was mediocre at best especially considering she has the money for top of the line equipment and trainers/coaching.

the entire event raised $127k.

The whole event ** raised $950K.** Her share was $127K. Why knock down something good that she did?

if i came in second last i wouldn’t even want anyone to know i did it.
she must (assuming she still has some sort of contact with reality) be at least a bit embarrassed with all the hype
surrounding her and her training to do so awfully.

the entire event raised $127k.

And last year they raised $718K.

The celebrities do a good job of raising money. You cannot fault them for that.

your right, completing your first ever Tri, and raising $127,000.00 for a good charity, what a waste.

I guess she shoudl have just stayed home and counted her money. WTF really? If this was just some random newbie we’d all be singing her praises, but because she is a celeb and has lots of cash people are bashing her, as if speed is a prerequisite to participate. how fast did you go in your first race?
