ITU World Triathlon Championship Series 2025 General Chat

Tough conditions for the junior girls today. Dangerous with the wind gusts on the bike. At least the run was cool as we lost 15 degrees centigrade just as the race started!!

That was carnage how the gaps grew during the run. Over a minute separating #1 and #3!

Great junior races. I never thought I’d watch this stuff. The boys and girls are absolutely fearless. No mucking about - attack after attack.

Indeed - he was absolutely superb.

I respect all opinions but I differ on this one.Obviously subjective but I’ve grown up listening to Trevor and Helen…maybe it’s because I’m British but I find the Aussie guy too raw and too excitable…especially when there’s nothing much to get excited about!

of course the style is very subjective ,but the prep he did is superb and also belinda.
helen knows the english speaking atheltes well but the rest not so. Will and belinda went deep into it and i applaud them for that.
to add i think he is also extremly good so see who is who in the water.

anyway i guess the key is so far the racing has been pretty good.

It is normally Helen quoting previous results and previous DNFs/blow ups etc. so that isn’t true.

I have to say he is better on the ITU races this week than the T100. The silence by Jan and Vicki when he spews nonsense is hilarious. I am particularly fond of how he starts shouting over the other commentators so absolutely nothing is heard apart from his screeching.

Either way puts last weeks IM coverage to shame.

I’m confused. Are you talking about Will McCloy?

lets leave it there, and focus on racing
( with a lillte side mark Will is not a t100 commentator)

vi and wheelchair para race was fab, usualy para tri races are unwatchable and the commentary makes ironman look good ,but that was really good. the camera work was better than the para oly games in my mind . the visiual impaired male race was really close with quite a few lead changes.
the female race was the expected result . interestingly gold medal winner susanna rodriguez’s guide sarah perez is doing the t100 race in a few hours.

OK. Finally an actual “season”. Will try and get to Quiberon, Hamburg and London. Hopefully the best athletes want to win it. Not always the case. Gotta be red flag to WT when that happens. Psyched though. The next obvious steps forward for WT need to be tougher bike courses or radical format change. I have a few ideas.

I am very surprised they have chosen Quiberon in June. The water will be cold, the air temperature will be low and it can be very unpredictable weather with high winds. It isn’t the best place to get to and it will highly likely be a boring multiple loops course.

France has got so many beautiful locations to choose from and Quiberon isn’t one of them that early in the year.

I slightly disagree ,its a race that tends to split in the swim with the waves and the lead pack more often than not stays away on the bike and the side wind makes it slightly harder for the lesser cyclists and being in parts narrow helps a smaller lead pack.

I would have preferred Albi which I think was by far the best race this year in the french grand Prix ,but at the end of the day you need a place that is willing to invest.

Yes. Albi was a great addition. We probably need Embrun back as a GP and WT venue. But that won’t happen until the historical RD moves on. When I was racing the GP. Mid-90s. The best events were Oyonnax and Vesoul.

Trevor and Helen are far more professional and measured in my view - very disappointed they weren’t doing the races in Australia.

“Professional and measured” :sleeping_face::zzz::person_in_bed:

(they’re good commentators, btw)

I would love to see Emma Snowsill and Belinda together. That would be fantastic. Vicky Holland in the mix as well.

Commentary was miles better at the weekend (apart from the Oz bias for the mens race) im told in the other thread Trevor does this with Brit athletes (don’t think he does, but maybe its something you’re oblivious to with your own bias)

I had a massive moan about this in here so only right that I say im happy seeing WTCS return to London next year! Its going to be shit if it’s in the same depressing area as T100 though.

I don’t mind Oz bias because it was in Oz and you have to expect that. It was good commentary. I don’t think Barry shows bias I just think he is better informed about GB athletes.

What a lot of you don’t appreciate is that until this season that was actually commentary for the BBC going out on BBC Sport. His commentary was appropriate for his audience.

yes but triathlon is not just bbc audience ( or now past audiance) there is people from many countries paying for this on world triathlon and they deserve a commentator that is not shy to talk about czech people and chilian athletes as well and trying to pronounce their names. something helen and trevor happily shy away from if they can.
and just to be clear i do actually like trevor and helen just not every race.
there is only so often you can listen to,
x is asking a question…
or helens adrenalin dump comment .
and its good to have some variation.
and i say it one more last time the were fantasticily well prepared ,they struggled a bit in the para race but even for that they were solid and it was by far far far the best para tri commentary, i have heard in the last few years.
and i got a good few chuckles out of it as political correctness is certainly not Wills strenght .
