Can someone chime in and educate me on equipment required for this event.
Is any of our standard equipment here in USA allowed by ITU in long course racing:
tri bikes, aerobars, aero wheels…aero helmets…
Those of you that have done it, what kind of a cost are we looking at here with Team USA for such an event.
Thanks
Atasic,
Yes you can use all of thos etoys you mentioned. Come on over so us Aussies can kick your butt. LOL
No it won’t be me I’m to slow. We could always trade some US/Aussie gear if you like.
the ITU rules are referenced here: http://www.usatriathlon.org/content/index/3727
That said, at last year’s worlds, everybody was using discs, aero helmets … the works. Not aware of any dq’s due to equipment.
Cost: depends on where the race is, and your preferred way of travel. You have to pay for all your travel, accomodation, and incidentals. To ballpark cost for a given event … check flight and hotel for the target destination, add in cost for food and drink, plus registration cost is somewhere around $300. Australia this year … for a flight from the US (coach) plus hotel and registration comes out to be ~$2600 without food and drink.
Hope that helps,
- Stephan
don’t you get the emails and news letters from USAT?
Thanks to all of you. Oh, I know I am going to get my ass delivered to me. That’s ok. At 4:39 for a 70.3, I am no speed demon by any standards, just want to look good when that happens. And I know Aussies rule the sport so I have no aspirations but to have a good race.
Since UCI, ITU and other European governing bodies make rocket science out of everything ( I was born and raised in Europe), I knew I had to check. Reading the rules on equipment on ITU web page, aerobars cannot go forward of brake hoods statement was confusing as they in paragraph above mention that all TT UCI rules apply. Well, I was not about to drop $500 to be ITU legal, but USAT person clarified it for me and said they don’t apply that to Long Course aerobars for some reason. Go figure, selective enforcement.
On newsletters thing, I do get some, but not Team USA related as I have not accepted the slot due to checking to see what the costs are and if my equipment was compliant.
Thanks for the brake down of costs. It sure helps.
