I am looking forward to this just because I live in Iowa and my in laws live in DSM which will make logistics a lot easier. Just not sure about date. Weather in June is very unpredictable. Also will the swim still be in greys lake? Can’t imagine how congested it will be doing 2 laps. Anyways can’t wait to see how it plays out!

I wonder if this is this is why Wisconsin was returned to September? Because it seemed real weird to me that Ironman just “listened” and rescheduled that somewhat newly-date relocated race.

I know of Des Moines from the Hy-Vee races so it seems like a great venue.

Des Moines looks pleasant enough, I just can’t imagine spending my vacation time to visit a small city in Iowa.

In my mind this is a race to cherry pick for a KQ. The race is not even announced until 7 months out. Extra kona slots as the North American championship. Plus the locals in the midwest are not all in peak form by June due to restrictive weather for outdoor training.

Gray lake was the worst swim venue I have ever raced. Its too small and there wasn’t enough water in the space between the bank and buoys because the water level was too low. It was combat swimming with contact the entire way because the space was so narrow. I can’t imagine doing it in two laps because Gray lake is so small there is no way to do it in one circle.

It’s 100,000 people bigger than Chattanooga. 130,000 bigger than St. George.

Or we midwesterners are all fit from months of hammering the trainer without soft pedaling! I run all year round outside, I love the early races.
