Also seems odd from Garmin’s perspective. They have always seemed to be about building up riders from within as opposed to huge signings (although there was the rumor they were close to getting Contador). I wonder how it will work with Farrar, Hushovd and Haussler.
Funny, Vayghters was pissed at losing Wigo last year, and he seems to be picking up the clssic crew from Cervelo. Maybe Gerard will chime in. Maybe their plan was not workable. When Cervelo started many said with the problem with sponsers that bike manufactures taking over teams may be the wave of the future…Guess not
According to another article on cyclingnews.com, Cervelo never offered him a contract for next year. He probably commands a very high salary as a TdF winner, but his days as a GC man are near the end. He’s riding now mostly for stage wins. Losing Hushuvd and Hausseler is a different story. Clearly they have not been the market for a big GC name.
I don’t think we’re going to see the same thing out of Fabian next spring. Lots of changes on Saxo.
He is still a beast, but most likely wont have the same support he has had in the past. Who else is left on Saxo that will help support him in the spring classics?
Not a lot. Where is O’Grady going to be? I heard he and Jens were going to the Lux team with the Schlecks. If that’s correct, Fabian doesn’t have much left. Breschel? If he stays, he is going to be competing with Fabian for wins He was unhappy about the fact that he wasn’t the #1 at a couple of the races this year.
On another forum a guy in the industry posted this regarding CTT:
“he team is bleeding Cervelo dry and that they can’t afford to keep running it. This is the supposed reason that Cervelo sold their brake in the fork crown patent to Trek. They needed money to keep feeding the beast, but the beast wasn’t loving them back.”

Did Cervelo really sell the patent to Trek?
That statement doesn’t pass the “smell test”…all of it…sounds like someone in the “industry” spreading false rumors…
I have no idea about the brake patent but your statement about the cost of the team sounds right. Cervelo is too small of a company to spend all that money without a title sponsor picking up a bunk of the costs.
I would not be surprised if Cervelo winded up as a bike sponsor of a Pro Tour Team for 2011…Maybe Garmin??

They do not have a patent on this yet only a pending application.
