Everything sorted out w/ a single call. who woulda figured it’s that easy.
Perhaps the drug rep for Omnicef is a friend of his … Maybe trying to make it easier since Omnicef is a twice daily drug (instead of other cephalosporins that are often 4 times/day). Need to ask him/her
Of course, the real question is why do have recurrent sinusitis/infections? Been to an ENT?
I hear ya… I’m quite prone to them… and they CAN be very persistent and take more time than you would expect to resolve. I’m quite dreading this cold and flu season between me and my toddler aka: the petrie dish :O)
The first time it took about 5 days of antibiotics- I think it was a ‘cillin’ drug, before I felt significantly better, and it cleared up by 10 days. The second time I took drugs for 10 days, felt a bit better but not 100%, went back and got another 10 days of the same thing, that fixed it. So yeah, 20 days later…
It’s really hit and miss, some sinus infections clear up quicker than others.
I think for your second time around, your Dr. should have asked what you took last time, and did it work or not. I know mine always checks back to see what rx she had given me.
Good luck
hi
being a pharmacist I see this all the time, the drug is correct but since it is the inner ear it is very hard for the drug to get in thre (well actually all antibiotics). Are you taking anything for the pain? I would that might help you out. If your not better in 7-10 days from this then I would go back to him.
Did you get alot of ear infection when you were younger?
A lot of sinus/ENT infections are viral in nature and antibiotics won’t work.
Have you tried sinus washing? When I was going thru round after round of sinus infections my ENT suggested it. Quess what… it works. Since I started, no sinus infections. I would suspect your ear infections stem from the sinus infections. Antibiotics are a last resort for me, and continuous doses… lead to bad things.
i’ve had good success with z-paks when i Rx them for pts for sinus. i agree with previous posts that ear infections are often viral so antibiotics are of no help.
ask for a different antibiotic or maybe see someone else.
I have had chronic sinus problems since 9/11 so I have unfortunately become an expert in this.
I have taken various antibiotics to combat my infections over the years. Zpaks worked for a while then didn’t, next one, next one, etc etc.
BUT Aftr 10 days you should show SOME improvement, after 2 cycles and no improvement, that is not the antibiotic for you. Your body adapts to them, which is why Zpaks are worthless to me now. As well everyones physioligy is different so some work and some don’t.
Not that I condone the whole self diagnosis craze but if you put any infection on webmd.com you will find multiple antibiotics to treat every infection as different antibiotics work on some people and not others.
My point here, find a new doctor, or go to an ENT doctor, he will give you something different. Also the ENT will likely give you something like flonase to relax the membranes in your sinuses. Do this quickly, sinus problems are no joke. I had a persistent one this year that really affected my training schedule. I am definitely not in the shape I hoped and expected to be in at this time due to missing so many training days from the pain etc of this 4 month long infection. (The other issue is the inhalation of mucus which is why if your stuffed it can be bad to train. The mucus sits in your lungs and can cause pneumonia. I know I have had it 3 times…)

This is definitely a good idea and has cut back on the severity of my sinus issues.
That said its not a cure all for everyone unfortunately. Especially if you have a deviated septum it sometimes prevents the washing from really getting everything.
Its funny, it does work for some, and not for others. But I have a bad deviated septum, ENT told me that getting it fixed was not worth it because my nasal nares are so small (damn Norwegian blood). For me, I’m very aggressive with washing, and during the bad pollen season, I do it 2 or more times a day. Zippo sinus infections.
I even got my Dad to do it, although he still says its gross.
My breathing sucks, team mates regularly say that they know they are where they need to be in a race when they can hear me breathe… and that they know they ARENT where they need to be when they cant.

LOL Same with me my breathing is loud sometimes.
Its totally gross but it works so who cares.

Hey rroof,
I’ll try and have a conversation w/ the doc over the phone and find out.
The recurrent sinusitis is a tough question - I’ve been having inner and outer ear infections since i was a kid, through uss swimming days. As an adult, not so much, just these 2 times in the last 3 years.
I haven’t been to an ENT since the kid years, spose it may be time to consider this again.

That would have been nice!

I’m just taking
ibuprofen for the pain
Pseudafed (pseudoephedra HCL) for the congestion - to clear the inner ear
And claritin/benadryl for allergies (mold is through the ceiling here currently).
Another issue is - cefdinir will not work as well apparently if you take vitamins/drugs with magnesium/iron/etc in around the same time, if you leave it in the light, if you look at it the wrong way, and if you’re not very polite and forget to compliment it every morning and night.
So i’m trying to give the drug its very own 4 hr time slot just for the antibiotic.
I really am disliking cefdinir more and more.

Understood, though I think the bacterial diagnosis makes sense in this case. I just couldn’t hear. no real pain or issues at first… so it would seem i simply had a fluid build up, but i wasn’t able to get rid of the fluid w/ decongestants before it became infected. (at least this makes sense in my mind)

Yup, was doing the sinuCleanse twice a day for a few days before i ended up giving up on home remedies and OTC and going to the docs.

That doesnt mean anything. The fluid buildup is a symptom of the underlying infection, whether the cause is viral or bacterial. I would make a diagnoses of Super AIDS in your case.
Live like you were dying. Because you are.
