Is this helmet aero?

I was gifted an Exclusky helmet. Fits great and includes a magnetic visor. This would replace an older Giro Advantage 2.
How aero is this?

Giro Advantage 2 is very fast “known quantity” helmet
.

As with all “aero” helmets, how can we really know? It’s pretty rare to see helmets aero tested and, when they are, they generally don’t take into account head shapes, differences in how people hold their heads, etc. A group of us had this discussion just yesterday. When companies tell us a helmet is aero, we have to take their word for it. (And we probably judge it based on what we think “aero” looks like.) So, to answer your question . . . I don’t know.

There is always the Chung Method you can do to see if it’s better than your old helmet: http://anonymous.coward.free.fr/wattage/cda/indirect-cda.pdf
.

Maybe.

But you would be replacing a fairly known quantity with an unknown one.

I’m pretty sure we can say for certain that his new “aero road” helmet is slower than the Giro A2 proper TT helmet
.

After testing > 100 people in the tunnel and probably 400+ helmets on those people if you’re not going to test you will never know for sure.

If you’re not going to test buy the helmet that makes you look the coolest, or matches your kit, or you like the most or is the least expensive. These axioms go doubly for those in the M45-49

White is known to be slow. Get it in black or red.

So are the only options the Giro and LG?

Eww you’re so old.

So are the only options the Giro and LG?

No, there are others.

😂😂 I think I’m a ST vet at this point. Not OG, but I have some years. I always think of this as the “Paulo move”.

I have grown to love it!

Well about all you can do is operate off some general rules. That looks like a wide helmet. The other wide helmets, like the POC Tempor and MET Drone, are usually only fast with a low head position. Basically the wide part of the helmet needs to be in front of the shoulders and blocking that area from the oncoming air. A wide helmet with anything but the lowest of head positions is just adding frontal area and won’t work well.

These are all general rules derived from internet wisdom, so take them with a grain of salt.

Totally true. I’ve got myself a KINGBIKE Ultralight in black&red and I bet you can’t get better for the price.

How’s the fit of KINGBIKE Ultralight. I need to buy a new helmet soon.

It was free and doesn’t look like a barn door so just wear it!!

Wore the new helmet in Saturday’s triathlon: rode 30k bike to 15th fastest out of 490 overall.
Not a bad result considering I am in 55+ age group and use:

  • the free no-name “aero” helmet
  • Flo wheels recognized by Hambini as one of the worst, did pump them to 95psi so had that going for me!
  • longish 172.5mm cranks
  • no power meter
  • no small chainring as front derailleur broke during warm-up ride (onsite mechanic prepped it on the big ring prior to race)
  • 2-piece sleeveless tri-suit

@Kid

clearly the helmet was 1.73 watts faster, and is the sole reason for your 15th place bike split.

That’s really fast. You must be doing 23+ mph easy.

Let’s remember that Hambini can’t answer many of the basic questions about his own study, has made up an entire story about our company sending him a legal letter, and that many other respectable tests have shown FLO wheels to perform much better than Hambini’s tests.
