man i thought this would by quieter then my old el-cheapo tacx. but it sounds like im running a lawnmower.
can anything be done? or is that just the nature of these?

Try a different tire. I switched my wife’s trainer wheel from a shitty trainer tire to a GP4000 that had a cut in the sidewall (and thus not safe to ride outside) and that cut the noise quite a bit.

I’ve had mine around 2 months and have used nothing but Continental Ultra Sport II. It’s quieter than my old Mag Trainer from Dick’s.
Not sure about quieting the trainer itself, but I have a Vittorio Zaffrino Home Trainer tire–it is quiet and does not die. It has been about 4 years now & it is like new. I like to slightly underinflate it about 5 psi from suggested. In case of heat build up and also it seems to be a bit quieter to me anyhow. Not saying that part I can back up with audio testing–but it seems that way when I’m riding the trainer–which, truth be told…isn’t often. Which is why it lasted so long like 4 years!
using a trainer tire.
maybe i can hose it down with wd40 or something.
My box fan is louder than my KK. I thought it was quiet.

They are usually not very loud. If you have the extra “Pro” weight, make sure there is nothing (no debris or packing foam bits, etc) between it and the regular flywheel because it will set up some pretty good vibration if it’s at all off center. Our office made pretty good use of about half a dozen of these and eventually two of them went back to KK for bearing issues. KK warranties these things for life so if you have an issue, talk to the place you bought it from, or else with KK direct.

This. KK is not loud. I’ve had the same one for 10 years.
The KK Road machine is not loud unless there’s something wrong with it or your expectations are very miscalibrated!
You should be able to expect the vast majority of the noise generated when you use it to be from the bike’s drive train, and the tyre. I did at one point try a trainer tyre and found it extremely noisy. So I dumped it. An old road tyre should be pretty quiet. If it’s squeaking, try and clean it and make sure the wheel and tyre installation are true. If there’s a buckle in the wheel, a bulge in the tyre, etc, you’ll get some noise from that.
its a sort of mechanical buzzing/whirring noise. not from the tire interface. so i was curious if there was some maintenance procedure that might help.

There’s some noise from the resistance unit. A little gurgling of the fluid as you start from rest and a bit of a hum in operation but nothing I’d consider very significant. The only iritating sounds I’ve noticed while on my KK Road Machine have been tyre noise (it may occasionally squeek if dirty/wet), my own breathing, or occasional gear issues or squeeky bottome bracket. I’ve had the KK for about 6 years I think and have used it very heavily for the last 2+. I’ve never needed to do any maintenance. There’s not a whole lot of maintenance you could do. It’s a sealed resistance unit.

I have 3 units and all 3 are quiet: as you say there’s a slight gurgle of the fluid but once up to speed there’s nothing.
I may get a slight creak in the quick release cups but a bit of grease fixes that (do that about once a year) but running a proper trainer tyre does reduce noise slightly but a normal tyre is still quiet.
The pro fly wheel doesn’t make any difference to noise but definitely improves performance.
