Other than the pockets in the rear, is there much difference between a running and biking jacket? Seems like biking jackets are a little more expensive and wondering if it I will notice a big difference if Irun in a bike jacket or bike in a run jacket? As long as I stay warm…
a lot of biking jackets will have an ‘exit vent’ in the rear, this has a pretty profound effect in preventing your jacket from turning into a parachute during rides.
then again having a parachute for training isn’t really a problem =)
I run in my bike jacket pretty regularly and haven’t seen a problem yet… Then again I dont run all that fast ![]()
yeah, running in the bike jacket would be the way to go, no downside that I can think of
.
Assuming you would wear a Cycling Jacket for… cycling, in the cold, and possibly wet and cold conditions: Yes, very large differences:
Cycling jacket is cut longer both in the torso to cover your lower back and backside and in the sleeves for when you bend over your handlebars.
Cycling jacket is cut shorter in the front, again to allow you to bend over.
Cycling jacket will be windproof on the front for warmth retention and breathable in the back to prevent overheating.
Cycling jackets are always FULL-ZIP for venting and easy On-Off even when wet.
For 30 minute “cross training” rides it will make little difference. But if you are riding any significant time for training and/or enjoyment purposes, then it makes a big difference. My first real cycling jacket made cold and wet rides SO much more enjoyable.
I would never bike in a running jacket, but always run in my cycling jackets. Actually I prefer running in a cycling jacket and have no idea why running jackets dont have rear pockets. Out for a run I can throw an extra set of gloves, hat, cell phone or what ever in the cycling jackets rear pocket…they are snug enough that nothing bounces around so you really don’t even notice you are carring anything. Haven’t tried it yet, but I’d also be curious if I carried a small water bottle in the back if it would bounce much?
…when you get warm and need to shed some cloths…jam them in your rear jacket pocket.

I run in a bike jacket all the time too.
I run in my bike jackets too, it’s pretty convenient actually, as some others have pointed out. But I wouldn’t ever wear a running jacket to ride in.
I just purchased the new Sugoi Versa jacket to purchase for both bikeing & running. It has a back pocket, tuns into a vest & felt good but not hot running.

Ok, glad it’s not just me, I always run in my cycling jacket.
I too run in my cycling jacket. Most people I see run in jackets that are long cut in the back. I do like that mine has zip off sleeves for when things warm up. Mine even folds up into a fanny pack if need be (though I never do that). I use a Louis Garneau.
Been running in my cycling jacket for a couple years now. Lost my jacket this winter and now I run in a double Under Armour layer. I’ll run again in my cycling jacket when I buy one next month to ride outside again. IMO there is zero need to a running jacket if you have a cycling jacket, unless you like to have all the new fancy tech stuff. Cycling in a running jacket…now that is just rediculous.
