“I that people who commit property crimes are human and deserved to be referred to in terms that acknowledge that,” Cyril, who’s the executive director of the Center for Media Justice in Oakland, writes in the thread.
Someone should clue her in that “criminal” *does *acknowledge the humanity of a person who steals.
Terminally silly.
49 square miles surrounded by reality.
The obvious answer is simply to stop referring to the acts they commit as “crimes”, but something less judgmental instead, such as “shenanigans” or “hijinks”.
No “crimes”, no “criminals”.
The next great san francisco earthquake cannot come soon enough.
Of course they are a criminal and calling them that doesn’t dehumanize them. Only a hum would steal a bike. My dogs tried but they couldn’t steer for shit and ran into a tree.
And I wouldn’t be ‘micro-aggressive’ towards them. I’d kick their ass in a major aggression sort of way.
It’s only a matter of time until one’s objection to micro-aggressions is used as a viable defense of macro-aggression.
Cyril suggested that instead of calling the thief who took the bicycle from your garage a criminal, you should be more respectful and call him or her “the person who stole my bicycle.”
I’m just gonna call them human fucking scumbag criminals. Is that humanizing enough?
You gotta be kidding me. Somebody needs to giver her a dose of reality.
I’m offended by your use of the term “reality.” The concept of “reality” is subjective, and yours is obviously of the privileged sort, so therefore your use of the term is a microagression.
But seriously, whenever I read these things I think of Phil Anselmo’s great lyric from 23 years ago: “Is there no standard anymore?”

#CHECKyourPRIVILEGE
How dare you offend the people forgotten by society who have to resort to liberating goods from greedy people who have too much just so they can feed their starving family!
But seriously, people be cray
In prep for the new SW movie all that needs to be said is, “the enabling is strong with this one.” Pretty soon it’ll be my fault that some kid broke into my house and stole my TV. And God forbid if I catch him and give him a whoop-ass i’ll get sued for something.
I think in California you have to exercise “due care” for anyone who’s on your property unless they’re committing one of X (23?) statutorily enumerated crimes (all felonies, I think). But I could be “wrong,” but only in the most unoffensive sense of the term.
I’m just gonna call them human fucking scumbag criminals. Is that humanizing enough?
I was thinking…
you should be more respectful and call him or her “the person who stole my bicycle…That is a criminal”

How about “the criminal that stole my bicycle?” Can’t we all just get along?
What I find so amusing is that people even engage Cyril with a response? I would just bust out laughing at any clown who suggested such a thing. Maybe say something along the lines of ‘awwww that’s so cute you have an opinion, just adorable’.
Is it wrong to call people ‘idiots’ for thinking it’s wrong to call bike thieves ‘criminals’?
I wonder how kind she spoke about Kim Davis in Kentucky. Did she recognize her humanity? Or how about law abiding NRA members? I bet she doesn’t show the same consideration to them.

Of course not. They’re privileged.

When my house got broken into and tools were stolen a couple of weeks ago I did not refer to them as criminals, rather I chose “mother fucking pieces of shit.” I hope that wasn’t offensive and dehuminizing.
