The spindle/bearing on one of my Powertap P1 pedals is busted. It no longer spins freely, and feels like it’s grinding. It also seems to have pulled out from the pedal body by about 2mm.
I figured that this is just something I am going to have to send in for repair, but… I guess I have been living under a rock for the last two years and didn’t realize that SRAM quietly killed PowerTap as a product line.
SRAM also seems to have no customer service that I can call, rather they want me to go to a dealer. But… would they even still repair a pedal like this? Or is my power meter now a fancy paperweight and I need to buy something new?
The bearings in the P1 pedals are not user-serviceable. PowerTap/SRAM has a service to replace the bearings. There was a recent thread on this about a month ago…
SRAM gave me the run around with the “go see a dealer” bit, but when I pushed them on it, there was no dealer to visit. They told me that parts were a good 6 months out and that repair was a solid maybe. I went and bought some Assioma pedals to replace them.

I’d suggest contacting Quarq directly. They still seem a bit more customer friendly than SRAM.

I did this and only had a delay due to supply chain issues. Otherwise exceptional service.
The bearings need regular servicing, I found mine needed replacing every 10-12k km’s. Always a pain as they had to be mailed to a dealer in the UK (I live in Spain). I have done this regularly over the past 4-5 years. However, I was told recently that the wait for parts was at least 6 months, but that most dealers were interpreting this extended delay as being SRAMs way of saying “the parts would no longer be availableâ€.
So I quit and moved to a set of Favero’s - a key part of this choice was the fact that they have user serviceable bearings (€40 per set), so are significantly cheaper and most importantly easier to service them.
