We all know that recumbent bikes are much more aero than current standard upright bikes. Not to mention they are easier on the back and the butt.
So is it time to allow recumbent bikes in triathlons? I say yes!!

No.
Not just no. HELL NO!!!
No.
The big issue is having recumbents and normal bikes on the same course during a race. They really don’t handle well move at way different speeds and take up much more room. Their are plenty of TTs and other events that allow them
My knees are killing me. Can I please just continue on using my bike for the run? I think it’s time for them to allow that, for me that is…
Hell no. I don’t want to crash because one of them ran into me.
Having a recumbent in a tri would be the same as having a tri bike in a road race. Big no-no.
While we’re at it lets throw on some regenerative brakes on the bikes for the uphills with a turbo button to finish passes
.
no.
First above of all, a recumbent bike is still human-powered. I’m not suggesting banning triathlon bikes, but considering the gains from riding a top-end recumbent bike on a flat and not-too-technical course, I don’t see any reason to not allow them. Those who have excellent recumbent bike handling skills can benefit from others’ lack of game. I thought triathlon was on the forefront of technological innovations.
Let those UCI suckers ride their weight-restricted and aero-restricted bikes.
Did a tri last month where they allowed them and they had their own division.
Not shockingly - there was a wreck involving one. No idea who was at fault or what the circumstances were - but there was one.
Half of the races that I’ve done had crashes. So it’s not really surprising to hear a recumbent crashed.
No…
/end thread.
Logic fail.

Seriously?Tris newest technological innovation is about 150 years old.
Where are the aeroweenies when you need them. Step up to the plate!
Would make for a more interesting spectator experience.

My wife can’t ride a standard bike for certain reasons. So she has a trike. When I ride with her, the trike takes up half the trail. It is cool to look at and fun to ride, but would be an utter disaster in a race. Recumbents aren’t much better.
Seems much safer than crashing on a tri bike.
How about eliminating the bike course, and using trainers with power meters so you can use what ever comfort bike you want - once you reach X number of total watts, you get to go on the run
