or did Bonita Ironman Lake Taupo NZ kick some fierce ass?

What do you mean? I was there only as a spectator this year. Yeah, it was good (as always) but nothing particularly memorable from what I recall.

What do you mean?

The swim from both sexes was amazing, TB on the bike smoking the bike leg only to have Cameron come back from an 8 minute deficit and take the run and win, the battle royale of the women between Holt and Crawford only to have Lawn ( Koala lady, go figure) come back and win.

Universal Sports has a way of making it all seem poetic, they do such an outstanding job of coverage and putting it all together, second to none.

Jo Lawn a koala lady? What are you talking about? She’s a Kiwi.

Cameron has come back to win, with as much as a 19 minute deficit at T2 (behind Bjorn), so seeing Terenzo go too hard to soon and lose 8 minutes wasn’t THAT exciting to be honest. The only time in IMNZ in the last decade that Cam has been tested was the 2006 debacle when they had the “Special K 1/2 duatlon” instead. (and he came second by about a minute from memory), even though he was the rabbit that was stuck out front with that silly TT setup they went with that year). It was truly sad to hear Mike Riley shout out “You are a finisher” (instead of ironman) because he knew, like the rest of us, that it wasn’t an IM that year.

How come NOBODY can come to little old NZ and kick Cam’s butt (to prarphrase the old slogan on his Nike speedos). Surely someone out there feels good enough to back themselves and knock him off his incredible perch! (but it appears not. Of course, Cameron Brown is the best triathlete ever to not win Hawaii. (poor bastard)

She looks like a koala bear and she’s the ones who snottily said about Chrissie in an on camera interview on UV Sports, “Someone’s gonna come along and beat her…”, all jealous as hell but after watching her race in NZ just now on the telly, I decided like her. ( i know she’ll sleep better at night knowing that, cha)

She was all blubbering at the end after she won, “Never give up!” Good stuff.

someone check my helmet sticker, please. sheesh.

doOd, I’m the excited nOob on this site so you’ll just have to forgive my ignorance as I don’t know all the history but I did catch that Brown has back to back won over there more times than any other triathlete anywhere, something like nine times. I didn’t expect anyone to catch TB after the bike but it turned out to be a great race in the end.

Jo Lawn is an awesome athlete. After Gina Crawford beating her last year, for her to come back and win this year was great. I admire Jo as an athlete and she does dig deep to win, but as a competitor who has to sit through her speeches at the awards party the next day, I don’t know if I can race IMNZ again. I remember back in 2004 at the awards dinner. She went on and on and on. A female friend who also raced said quietly under her breath “get off the stage”. I admonished her and said we had to give her respect since she won. 10 min later with Jo STILL blathering on, I too whispered “get off the stage”

Also, we can all be thankful that someone told her to stop wearing white one piece outfits to race in, and that she raced in blue/grey this year. Awesome athlete, but hasn’t made the leap to being a great person.

Cameron Brown on the other hand is also an awesome athlete, but is a great person. He is sooooo humble and kind to everyone else. He can’t praise other people enough! Cam has made the leap to a great person. Jo could learn from him.

Just my 2 cents, and it’s not like I’m anything better than an opinionate jerk, so I really shouldn’t be casting aspersions!

my two cents is that it’s got to be something in the air and the water down in NZ. can you explain the white suit story, I haven’t heard or witnessed anything about it.

For several years, Jo Lawn raced in a white one piece outfit. she is a true Ginga, and has fairly pale skin. In the rain, or even doused with water at aid stations, it went almost transparent and left precious little to the imagination.

I’d have thought that another woman would have taken her aside and mentioned it to her, but she did it for several years.

And I’m not sure why she races in “corn-rows” as she is blindingly white.

Thankfully she races like the wind, and that makes up for a lot. Some of her recent comments about other competitors aren’t particuarly well thought out, but the girl sure can go fast!

after losing to Crawford she changed her eating habits.

looks like a koala bear

I can think of a few things she looks like, but a koala bear is not one of them.

.

And she wears some bite block or something when she rides, to release tension or whatever. She apparently had one of those “moments” when she found out about it last year in Europe, and it appears to have done her the world of good.

(I don’t think she looks like a Koala tho)
