Is it dorky to wear a race number belt for a run-only event (eg marathon?)

how else would you carry gels?

Yes!

Carry them in your hands?

Do you really care? Seriously?

I wear an elastic band for swim goggles as a race belt for 1/2 marathons and tris. I wear my Desoto tri shorts and use the pockets for gels. But I can see why that race belt would be any dorkier than anything else being worn on your race day.

Duct Tape
.

I think that as long as you finish sub-4, you can wear almost anything you want. Racebelt clearly is acceptable in my book.

The best response would be DFM, but since you asked, my answer is:

ANYTHING is cooler than safety-pinning. I hate pinning things to my shirt.

I wish I’d bought one like that. I have a normal race belt with no gel loops that I’ve used for tris and a marathon and I had to make my one gel loops out of electrical tape. It worked fine but took a little more effort to get set up.

Well yes of course it’s a ridiculous question. but really, i don’t see those kenyans running with fuel belts or camelbaks… perhaps less is more.

For a couple 1/2 marathons, I’ve stuffed a gel in my sportsbra.

It’s not any more dorky than getting up at 5 or 6 am on a weekend to go do a run only event…

No
.

A brillant and very well articulated comment.

It’s fine…as long as it’s not the only thing you wear.

Me too, but upon reflection perhaps a race belt is less dorky than a man wearing a sportsbra…

when I see someone doing that I always think why? Highlights you as a triathlete, ie, dork.

Yes, it’s dorky…but do you care?

A couple of options:

Waistband (since running shorts have them)

Shorts with a center rear pocket

Cary a gel flask in one hand

Tri top with rear pockets

Sherpa

Not dorky as long as the color does not clash with your compression socks, arm coolers, skin tight tri top & bottom, M-dot branded visor, $300 Rudy Project sunglasses, and 6 bottle fuel belt. Its important to look good for the local 5km charity run.

Nah, it’s alright. I mean, let’s be honest, you are going to be around a bunch of runners who are right up there on the dork scale with swimmers, cyclists and the all-around tri geeks. We are all reall just a bunch of nerds

Isn’t that what race number belts are for? Only losers pin their bibs to their shirts!
