Does anyone else think Bob Roll isn’t looking quite right these days at the Tour of California? I don’t know if I missed something mentioned online or on a telecast. Is he sick? I hope not since I find him to be pretty funny.

are you talking about his buzzed hair cut? He had Lance and Johan Bryunel (sp) shave his hair off yesturday after making a bet about raising money for cancer.

And Bob tried to conduct and interview with Lance while he(Bob) was having his head shaved and Lance couldn’t do it b/c he was trying so hard not to laugh. He actually had to walk away.
I like Bob.
He does look like he’s not caring for himself… needs to ride more!
The new guy (I think you’re referring to the young one) is very sharp. He commentates on several sporting events… despite the fact that he seems like he has little first hand knowledge, but he “wings it” nicely. For instance, I saw him covering a golf tournament and I think a Pro Bull riding event.
The thing he does well is the segue from one topic to the next… keeps the banter flowing.
one really begins to appreciate even mediocre announcers after you see a few terrible ones.
go find the first couple UFC events and you will appreciate announcers a lot, haha
Are you talking about Craig Hummer? I would think you should all know him as a multiwatersport God. Monty even blushes with Craigs resume. He was bad assed in the water.

Craig Hummer. He knows sports from shuttlecock to MXC (“Don’t get eliminated”!).
Seriously, I like his style. He probably has less than 100 hours in the saddle, but can kick it around with the big boys.
Craig Hummer is certainly in a elite class of lifeguard competitors. He has done a good job considering he is new to cycling as a commentor. I believe he has commented on triathlons since the early to mid 90’s.
Bobke got his hair cut by the Astana group. I am surprised he doing the interviews because that was Hummer’s job up until last summer. It probably is better because as a race announce Roll is awful. He has some great stories but I mean that guy can work Lance is name in to almost every sentence and that was the last 3 years when he was not even racing.
He’s a better cyclist than you give him credit for. Not the same class as his swimming but probably could have been if he’d decided to go that way.

Honestly, I have no F’n idea about Hummer’s background. How do you know about his cycling prowess? How do you qualify your assessment of “better” and what are you comparing it to, since I simply referred to saddle time (a quantity)?

I know the dude. Your 100 hours comment implied that he’d barely ever sat on a bike, he could probably have turned pro in any endurance sport that took his fancy.
I’m not a huge fan of his presenting at this race (and I’ve never watched the dumbass bullriding). It’s all a bit cheesy. But then he is an American tv presenter…

Hummer’s not that new. He’s been doing the TDF coverage since '05 or so, I think.
I think you’re confused…I only have a brother so… Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
