Is black a bad choice for a tri top?

Looking to buy the desoto forza riviera black tri top andwas then wondering if black is a bad choice for a summer time half.

Thanks

If you have issues with overheating, yes, black is a bad choice. You frequently see the bigger racers wearing the white arm sleeves and shirts because it bounces rather than absorbs heat.

That said, if you’re worried about a slilmming look, black is always in style ^_~

These work perfect for me, long and black, probably not for the reason you would want them to. All of Emilio’s tri tops were made for beer drinkers. Long, black and tight.

can’t answer to that particular top as I don’t wear desoto, but some of my COOLEST tops are black. Anything made with “cold-black” material actually keeps you cooler and reflects much better than white. I am a big guy and get hot and sweat alot and I find I do much better in coldblack tri tops and bottoms than anything else I’ve tried.

Black works great for me - I have raced in other colors before, and I can’t tell any difference in the heat. It is easy to match with other items and tends to wear well.

Depends on material, see team Sky tops
.

I race in a half black top, I was worried it might be an issue. If it is I don’t notice.

That said … I also wear arm coolers in hot races and that makes a big difference so … if you were to get a top in that fabric you may see a benefit rather than simply no negative …if that makes sense.

Pretty much scientifically impossible. It’s reflects better than other black fabric and that’s about it.

ahhh good ole slowtwitch…anything for an argument… ok since I was “attempting” to repsond to the op I will be more clear with what I was trying to get across…when I wear white…yes it stays fairly cool for a while, however, when the sun is in full force…(esp here in FL) I “feel” the heat through the shirt and it “feels” like I’m burning through the fabric, even though it has uv rated fabric. However when I wear cold-black material I stay cool and I don’t feel the heat (perceived or real who knows…but who cares) anywhere near as much and I actually feel cooler. I love science and facts just as much as the next guy. I buy into some and not other things I find while researching performance gains. I also love the real world and when I put something to use and can personally quantify the gains or lack of gains from that product I tend to beleive myself. Carry on w/ the out of context scrutiny on this obviously boring Sunday evening.

Hmmm I don’t think it’s impossible: How about a black material where all the absorbed energy was used to pump a laser firing out of the posterior area to provide extra trust. Or a smart material designed to locate all the observers and reflect light only where observers where absent, say using an array of DLPs.

So no not scientifically impossible, just difficult.

I think the ass-laser suit would sell a boat load!

Try it first during training that simulatestyour race closely. I hated it after racing in 90deg hot and humid east coast summer day.

if you are a woman it is definetly a bad choice and i would go for white if I were you. But that is just my personal preference though. White is very…cooling :0)

Yes it is possible for a black top to be cooler. Some black fabrics when wet will make water evaporate quicker and take heat away with it, I’ve experimented with that many times in a sunload chamber.

The fabric would have to be wet all of the time and that is the key. Now if the fabric isn’t wet then it will accumulate heat slightly quicker but then that would most likely mean that the person is not sweating and there isn’t a need for cooling.

+1 for chicks in white

STers like data. Do you have numbers on emissivity and absorption?

Emilio is it true that black works better on men and white works best on woman ? Answer wisely my friend :0)
