Is anyone 5' 10" on a 58 cm frame

Fitter said he would recommend a 58 cm felt B-14 for me. I was quite shocked because my road bike feels big and is a 56 and everyone else was telling me a 54 cm tri bike. That said the person that recommended the 58 is very skilled. Before I take the plunge I figured i would ask to see if at least one person out there is already on something similar.

Is anyone else 5’ 10" on a 58cm frame?

Brad

5’10.5" on a 54cm P2C
.

I’m 5’11 and my 56cm is probably just a touch too big.

Do you have a long torso?

Same exact thing happened to me when I was fisted. I walked into the store and figured I would get a 54 b-14. After the fitting, due to the fact that I ride on the tip of my saddle (ISM) and trend toward a steep position with a low front, he recommended 58 in the B14 or 56 in a bike with the Bayonet 2. And there just happened to be a '10 B2R on closeout…

So I ended up with a size bigger than I thought I would get. And I’m 5’10, and ride a 56 road bike. With TT rigs its all about effective top tube, not seat tube.

yes the fitter told me i do have a fairly long torso. I am new to tri and he he put me on the DFU machine and i chose a effective stack and reach (to where the basebar is mounted) of 550 reach 571 stack. however i did this not knowing really anyhting just what felt better.

lets see I should have my torso measurement around here somewhere… ahh inseam is 843mm (33.18in) and torso 579mm (22.79in)

Sounds like you already know the answer to your question…

A hair under 5’11" and a 54 P2 fits me like a glove.

I also ride on the tip of my ism as well. He told me i could ride a 56 but to put me at the STA i chose I would need to have like a 120mm stem. He said with a 58 i should be able to keep the 100mm stem or possibly a 90mm.

Why did he have you size down if you went with a bike with the bayonet fork?

I am assuming that since you didn’t warn me not to that you are still pleased with your bike?

I’m 5’10" with long legs and shorter torso. I’m on a 54cm Scott Plasma, which fits great. My old road bike was a 56cm top tube, I had a very short and steep stem on it, and it always felt long. Of course, your 5’10" body could be very different from mine.

57 stack??? sounds awfully big for someone only 5’10" with reportedly a long torso. Are you sure those S/R numbers are right?

Same deal. I could ride a 56 with a 120mm stem.

The Bayonet 2 has more of the stem built in to the fork system, so you get the same numbers without a long stem.

Yes, I am stoked on my bike. Frame size numbers dont matter, unless you buy first and get fitted later. Trust what the dude told you, sounds like he is one of the few that actually do things right.

Ive never once thought, “oh no, my bike is too big! Most people ride a 54!” Its just as comfortable as the day I bought it. Most people don’t read slowtwitch and get fitted first. Thats why they ride small frames.

Is that a long torso, really? That seems leggy to me.

I’m 6’1" with a 34" inseam and I thought the Felt in 58 was too long of a cockpit. I now have a 56 and think a 54 would really be ideal for me. Of course, YMMV.

I’m 5’ 10" and I ride a 52cm Felt B2R. Fitter described my proportions are being longer torso, shorter legs. The bike fits me great. That being said, the majority of my friends who are my height seem more comfortable riding a size 54cm.

I’m far from bring an expert but a size 58 does sound very big for a guy my height.

I am on a 58 and I am 6’2"

Actually I dont think the OP does.

I agree with this guy. i think that if i ride in my arbitrarily chosen forward position a 58 should be fine but it seems like i would not have much ability to go to like a 79 degree seat tube angle without having a really short stem. Would i ever want to go to a STA around 83 degrees or so or is that just stupidly forward?

I’m 5’ 10.5’ and Mr. Demerly himself put me on a 58cm P2 a few years ago. I think I ended up with a 90mm stem. I’m long legs/short torso.
