Rival, Force, and Red eTap AXS all use the same electronics and motors so I’m assuming you can mix and match across the groups without any issues? I’m looking at picking up a new road bike with Rival (currently available locally) and swapping it over to Force/Red but would be nice to not have to do everything at the same time depending on parts availability. I’d swap the shifter/levers first to get the capability of adding Clics or Blips.
I have a mix of Red and Force on two of my bikes and everything is compatible. I assume Rival would be as well.
Yes, and they are cross-compatible with the Eagle AXS line as well. Compatibility map here.
*Edit: Don’t forget they just released the wireless blips which will work with the Rival shifters/levers. Many of the reviews mentioned the Rival shifters/levers actually had a better hand feel than Force/Red. I was planning on switching my gravel bike over to Rival shifter/levers with an Eagle GX rear derailleur.

Thanks. I’m not completely opposed to keeping the Rival. It should theoretically function identically to Force/Red since the electronics and motors are the same. The only exception I’m aware of is that the Rival RD uses a spring damper vs fluid. That shouldn’t be a significant issue for a road bike. I’m swapping out the cranks/PM regardless so that’s a big part of the weight difference. I had assumed that the Rival shifter/levers/calipers are significantly heavier but actual measurements show they are very close with Force actually being slightly heavier.
I believe all the current stuff is cross-compatible, but pre-AXS e-tap doesn’t play with AXS. I think something fundamental was changed

why would you swap parts? the ONLY part that is even worth considering swapping out would be the crankset, if you’re a weightweenie. otherwise, i don’t see the value in swapping parts. i have a bunch of Rival AXS at the compound, along with Force and RED AXS, and the differences aren’t meaningful. i think perhaps that Rival lacks the ports for multiclics - that’s the “drawback”. the new wireless blips make those ports old tech now.
Ports for Blips and a different size/shape to the Force hoods. From what I can tell in pics I don’t much like the new “toggle” type wireless clicks. I much prefer the “button” type blips that I can wrap bar tape over but who knows once I see the new wireless clicks in person. I suspect once I get to riding it I won’t care to swap out the FD and RD since they are functionally identical to Force/Red and don’t offer a substantial weight savings. I’m definitely not sticking with the heavy single sided Rival crank/PM though. I need shorter cranks anyway so I’ll likely go with Red.

ok, but i don’t really see the benefit to RED over force. i’ve got both, and it’s kind of like campy: once you go above chorus you’re not buying bike parts, you’re buying jewelry.

A little off topic, but Red might be all you can get in a reasonable amount of time. I was quoted 450 days for a new Speed Concept with Force the other day. 25 days with Red.
