Man, that was a tough day 1 at Irontour Lake Placid today. The first day featured a tough 186 K bike including two loops of the LP bike course (less the out and back on the second loop), but also included a climb of Whiteface Mountain. At the base, we were under 1000 ft above sea level. The summit was at 4600 + ft. Weather was sub 10 degrees, howling winds at the summit (ie blow the rider off the bike winds). Worst of all, we has a tough westerly wind, which meant riding 90% of the ride into a headwind. Overall for the ride was were over 10,200 ft of climbing for the day and 7 hours on the bike !

The rest of the day was killer, lots of wind and hills. We survived the 30 min transition run and after a quick lunch (at 3:30 pm) at subway, it was in the water for a 50 min 3000m swim.
Tomorrow, is another 5-6 hour day: 2 hour - 100K bike - 1K swim. We’ll post an update tomorrow. Time for bed…we’ve been up since 5 am.
