Ironman Wisconsin 2023

This is the last year of the contract correct? Will the race move from the September date? I see Ironman Iowa is date is still TDB. Does anyone have any knowledge?

It’ll be September 2023, likely 9/10/23
.

They are indeed advertising the race for September 10, 2023 with registration opening 9/19.

Pre registration for the 70.3 was announced today and the date is Set 9, so looks like the Sat 70.3/ Sun 140.6 is the thing going forward. Hopefully they can make that work as the 70.3 course was changed within the last day or so due to not enough volunteers. This looks sketchy going forward, but I know the Madison community wants the race to stay. My opinion is the 2 day back to back races make little sense, but may be the way Ironman is going…

Yeah I really don’t understand them doing the 70.3 and Ironman on the same weekend.

There has to be more money in spreading them out so people can do both. Tons of people did 70.3 Racine in July and then Ironman Wisconsin in September. Now they can only get money once from those people. The independent half Ironman distance races in Wisconsin are probably happy though.

Glad to hear they aren’t trying to move the Ironman date again though.

Agreed’ not the brightest solution and costs a lot in entry fees long term. I also think the volunteer issue and course changes will eventually have an effect on the race of it no longer being popular. Multiple out and backs on a boring lake course really don’t draw much interest long term. I’d guess it’s a best case scenario for the Ironman pocketbook so they can still accommodate the Des Moines and other midwest races they are tap dancing with for more funding. Pit one against the other and the biggest bidder wins seems to be IM’s game, regardless of the contracts, longevities or history. Quick bucks…

I’ve gotta think that new run course is going to get pretty congested…
