The current list of starters is up: https://files.constantcontact.com/...985-7291c25fb8da.pdf
I note that Wurf is a late addition to the list, presumably after his close fail to get an NQ in South Africa.
IM Texas has 5m+5f ‘Kona’ slots. It has a total prize purse of US$175.000, paying 10 deep.

On the women’s side, it’s pretty much last year’s podium plus Kat Matthews. I suppose Matthews is the favorite, after her great performance at Oceanside. I’m not sure about McCauley’s form after last year when she battled a lot of injuries.
I wonder why Ben Hoffman isn’t defending his title. Last year’s Hoffman vs. Dietlev sprint finish was awesome.

Yes, McCauley has been in the wars. Assume is fit again after surgeries early in the year. https://www.youtube.com/@jocelynmccauleytri
Matthews seemed positive both before and after Oceanside and needs the KQ.

I think Ben might be going the Heather Jackson route. I think he’s somewhat stepping away from the traditional races to try something else. Not to shame him or anything, but I think the competition is just super tough right now. Somewhat crazy though, his run is still pretty top notch.

Problem with trying “something else†is that it doesn’t pay the bills, like Patagonia man which he won last year. Unless he is financial well off, doubt he can just dabble in alternative races that doesn’t have a decent pro purse. It’s already tough out there as it is…
I saw Wurf´s strava in a spanish website that mentioned it…completely insane
He finished just +22m after Van der Poel, then a half marathon in 1.26… This is the most brutal stuff I have ever seen in training. Finishing a 265km in a monument with cobblestones at that level and then running a 4.00ish m/km for 20km… I am speechless

Hey come on,no need to be speechless,it isn’t like he came 6th at the Arena Games
This could go a LOT of different ways given the depth of the field- Wurf if it’s not a hot day and he can hold it together on the run, Lieferman if he’s fit and has built up the volume, Bart Aernouts if there’s not a huge front pack swim/bike group, RVB if performs better without the heat of Kona/Coz, Foley if he has a run he’s capable of…
Very spectacular from Cam Wurf indeed.
I wonder what his team mates / team coaches & directors think about it though. I don’t think Ineos had the best of days in Roubaix (early crash leading the peloton, Ganna isolated early), so not sure how they think about one of the riders still going for such a run afterwards.
very true. He must have some type of agreement seeing that Ineos is always a contender for the podium. Can’t see how the running is in any way advantageous to his cycling. nevertheless truly impressive from a triathlon point of view.

Anyway, he’s a legend, love it!
Ya that’s what I thought. If I was disappointed in the performance of my team and saw one of my guys out crushing a run afterwards, I’d be wondering how he had so much gas in the tank if our results were “poor”. But I freely admit the strategy and role he played might have underutilized him. Maybe he was even sending a message…“hey look at me, I’ve still got legs, don’t hold me back next time.”

From all reports over the last couple of years,Cam has the complete support of Ineos management and his teammates. I am sure Cam puts his “cycling job” ahead of everything when he races for them and doesn’t just go rogue with his tri training. No doubt we will see some more info come out in the next few days.

I don’t understand the approach, like what is the goal? It seems pretty unlikely he can get to his best triathlete self doing pro cycling, so why do the triathlons at all?

It is his job and he is loving it so why not? The guy is living the dream and may be the only Pro Triathlete in the world who gets a regular pay cheque.

Multiple streams of income. He expands his sponsors and is able to capitalize on more bonuses and more appearance fees. Super smart…
