Ironman Santa Rosa 2023?

The race is listed on the official IM website - https://www.ironman.com/races (filter by North America and Full Distance).

There’s “TBD 2023” on the left and “Cancelled” on the right.

Couldn’t find any additional info. Any updates? Any chance the race returns?

It could also be a bug of the site - for example, there’s IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines in that list (there will be no full distance race in 2023, only 70.3).

I’d love to see IMSR return. One of my favorite courses.

EDITED. AH my bad I forgot about Ironman California this weekend! My fault.

It really is too bad that there isn’t a full in California (I forgot!). The race (from an athlete’s perspective) is about as idyllic as you can get. Beautiful ride, three loop run, great local amenities. Only downsides of the race are the hill running up to t1, and some road surfaces on the bike aren’t the best, but really not that bad. I understand from the local’s perspective that it is annoying, but that’s true of every race.

Isn’t IM California happening this weekend?

Besides the race literally titled Ironman California?

Theres one this weekend…

Yikes, not gonna live that mistake down!

I’m still bummed Santa Rosa went away. I had signed up for it as my first full (2020…). I had really wanted to do Vineman, but its original course was bought out / Ironman changed before I was in to try enough to start considering longer distances (stuck with sprints and olys for 4 years and don’t regret it one bit).

Still, Sac seems like such a strange place for a full. I really hope for a successful race this weekend, because once again weather seems to be creeping in and folks are freaking out. Having grown up in NorCal (specifically the East Bay), Sacramento was never a…destination? It wasn’t somewhere we wanted to go. But I’m hoping that there’s allure similar to finishing at the capitol in Wisconsin. Regardless, I don’t live in CA anymore, I just want the tri scene to continue to be strong there!

I am/was also bummed when Vineman (and later Santa Rosa) went away. Partially because I didn’t have to travel far for the race but also because I really like the area. Sacramento has zero triathlon appeal - to me at least. I suppose if I feel like doing a full again Sacramento is a more attractive option than traveling - as I don’t see the point of traveling to exercise - but I wish there were more options in Northern California. I’d probably even pay a premium to do Santa Rosa again (despite paying around $290 for a number of years for the full).

Hate to bash Sacramento since I live about 17 miles away, but have to agree. If choosing a Northern California destination, Sacramento is a city you drive by not drive to. Still, as for the actual race, the course might make for a fun fast day (while the American river trail is far from glamorous, I think the safety issues are highly exaggerated) and finishing in front of the Capitol building, akin to CIM, could be cool.

Still, I’d prefer a return to Santa Rosa.

The fact (or was it just rumours?) that there was a high e-coli risk at the swim course in Sacramento, due to the flooding of the river banks, where too many homeless people apparently lives (and their lack of bathrooms), made me pick an alternative IM than California.

Very curious as well. Hopefully someone has some info

Plenty of homeless in Santa Rosa too. Water is good, but some problems on the run.

The air/water temps could only mean September.

I swore off that race after doing it in 2018 and having endured the worst road conditions ever… but maybe after a 5 year break I am in for more punishment.
