New to this so sorry for the dumb questions… So from what I can figure you have to register for an Ironman the prior year the day after the race takes place, otherwise you dont get in right? I cannot find info on the 2012 Louisville Ironman Registration, did they open it early? Have I already missed out for 2012?

What he said above. Most races sellout VERY quickly (like within 24 hours or faster). I think Louisville is one of the few races (along with St George) that does not sell out until very close to race day (if even at all).

Not sure which WTC Ironmans that you are referring to that opens a week or two after the race. Also, not sure which WTC Ironmans you are referring to that open registrations ON RACE DAY. All of the ones that I’m aware of, opens the day after the race at noon. For WTC Ironman races, current year athletes are allowed to register for the same race the following year, the day before the race. Online folks are allowed to register the day after. Some races allowed for volunteers and spectator to sign up on site, a few hours before it goes on line. It doesn’t look like IMLou will do that for 2012 (http://ironmanlouisville.com/registration/2012-registration/).
To the OP, the reason why you don’t see IMLou’s info is because the race hasn’t occurred yet. IMLou is on 8/28 this year. Check out their website on 8/29 around noon and you will see the registration link. You don’t need to be too concern about IM Lou being sold out within minutes or hours like some of the more popular ones. If you come in at noon, you should be able to get a slot … assuming that you have a little patient with active.com.
Ironman Louisville was open until February 2011. You do not need to be stressed about signing up for IM Lou 2012. It will be open for a while once registration starts 8/29/11.
