Ironman NZ (1)

no but it looks like favourable weather for marathon running
.

yeah cam brown ran 2.43…will be interesting to see if richard swan (a poster on this site) can break the 3.00 hour mark!

heaps of fairly fast people don’t seem to have bike splits?

I think swanny got it…I don’t really trust these IMLive splits but it looks to me like he got off the bike in 6:46ish…if so he CRUSHED 3 hrs on the run…mid 2:5x’s plus T2 it appears

cyclenutnz with a big PB also!

yeh i saw that! some pretty good times! swim looked a bit slow…a guy i train with, who can hold 1.15s for 400m intervals, only went just over 50, but then i guess he might just have been cruising.

urgh…wish i wasn’t injured! hah…am working on my swim, hoping to get up to 14 yr old levels of fitness. heh.

Hey Show Pony,

Well I’m pretty stuffed now, we drove down to Taupo from Whanga last night at midnight, watched the race, and now I’m back in Whanga at 10pm…

It’s actually the first Ironman distance race I’ve seen, usually only end up watching Sam in Olympic distance races, and obviously this year we’ve been to a couple of 1/2’s.

We watched Kona on Sky in the hotel room in Geelong and both Sam and I were blown away by it. It looked awesome so we’ve been half pai joking about doing an Ironman since then.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Like I say, Sam’s talked a bit about doing the full distance so my reason for going was to get my head around the set up, what goes on, the vibe etc. Gotta say I was really impressed with the whole show, the event had everything.

Weather was typical Taupo, four seasons in one day. The swim looked pretty damn good conditions to me. I guess Doe being absent affected the group. Fozzie had a blinder though.

Conditions for the bike were pretty good, frequent light showers would have slowed them down slightly in the town centre but it was cool and fairly still, pretty ideal really.

Warmed up a bit on the run, although Cameron looked way cool to me. He really showed his class today.

Kinda like the story of the young bull and the old bull. Young bull says to the old bull “Let’s go jump that fence, deal to one of those fine looking cows each and get outa there before the farmer’s any the wiser”, old bull says to the young bull “nah let’s just go through the gate, take our time, and have them all”.

Gina finally got her rewards today. She’s sat in the shadows of Sam, Jo, and the other NZ girls for a couple of years now, but definatley showed her class today. She really went out and took that race by the scruff of the neck today, hopefully she’ll get the respect she deserves over here now from the powers that be, and sponsors.

As far as Sam’s concerned, the jump to 70.3 has been great, she’s really found her feet at the distance. We’ve joked about it only being 2x70.3’s…but it’s a whole different ball game I can see now. These girls really are Ironwomen and it would be unrealistic to think that Sam could make the jump any time in the next year or two I think personally. And then when you consider the likes of CW et al are on another planet again…

ITU World Championship Series here we come!

Just in from a long day. Was wet, cold and punctures. Poor bastards racing.

It should be :

old bull says to the young bull “nah let’s just **use our horns to lift **the gate of its hinges, take our time, and have them all”.

But I get the gist. Cameron knows what he is doing and by using his brains, he gets the final result!
