Signed up for the 70.3…First time doing this race.
I’m about 1.5 hours away….where are the best places to stay? I’m assuming hotels sell out quick! Easy packet pick-up, finish, etc.
Thanks in advance!

There are multiple hotels/motels within 3-4 miles of the race finish/downtown. You will save a good buck by staying at these locations that were not totally filled at last year event. Look for places on “Market Street” which has the YMCA, Walmart and multiple brand name food places.
Thanks BillyK24!
Hey - I have never been to this venue. Where is transition? I’m trying to locate hotels on Market St - but could I get a little more detail? Thx
Try this:

Holiday Inn on Market St. go to the site and a small map exist. Better yet, Go to Google Maps and type in Market St Wilmington, Nc.
opinions obviously vary by person and this is just my opinion.
If you are coming to Wilmington to have a good all around experience then Market street is not where I would send you.
I live downtown and the hotels on Market are the absolute last place I would look. The market street hotels are known to be the center of the drug and sex trafficking trade.
So OldFart…suggestions please! I don’t want/need to stay at an extravagant place. Just clean and close to restaurants, with decent access to the race venue.
always interesting for the race b/c of the different start and finish. Before moving here I stayed at the beach and downtown for my trips to the race. If doing the 70.3 staying at the beach is not a bad option (later start if it stays same as when not IM.). Also the Sunday after the race I got to have breakfast at the beach and hang at the beach If doing the full I think staying downtown might be better. I would not want to have the hassle of getting back to Wrightsville after a long day
Expo and finish area: Hilton, Best Western, Courtyard and some independents like Hotel Tarrymore, the Wilmingtonian
Beach/T1: Holiday Inn Sunspree, Shell Island, Blockade Runner also a Courtyard just before the draw bridge at Wrightsville
In the Middle between Start and Finish: Hampton Inn and Fairfield inn on Eastwood. Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Hilton Garden and Homewood suites all at Mayfaire.
You can also find quite a few places on VRBO at the beach and downtown.
Suggestions please!
Like Mac – I just want a clean room that is convenient for the race!
Thanks!

Thank you!! Several options…hopefully they won’t sell out too quickly!
another option if you do not mind a little driving.
At that time of year you will be able to get plenty of cheap rentals at Carolina Beach/Kure Beach. It would be a 20-25min drive to downtown (expo and finish area) and about a 30-35min drive to Wrightsville (Start and T1)

Great, this sounds good too! Thank you!
Stay away from Market street motels, unless your into prostitution and drugs. Plus the constant din from police sirens will keep you awake…

Thank you Ron! Looks like I definitely will not be staying near Market St. Will need solid rest before the race!
Well, let’s not be so hasty. Just how attractive are these prostitutes? On a scale of 1-10, say? Might be a good pre-race diversion
One thing that WTC could actually add to this race would be a shuttle bus back to T1 from the finish. Louisville had a shuttle from the convention center to transition, and it was no where near as far away. Would make staying at the beach much more convenient.
That said, even if they provide the shuttle, I still want another pair of pajama pants.
