Ironman Live Streaming 2023 Schedule - Disappointing

I just saw the schedule has been updated here
Seems Facebook Live is gone: GOOD, strange media partner there anywayIt is still free: GREAT, did not expect that. Youtube seems to be preferred streaming media now: BLEH, better platform, but more commercial breaks I guessIt mentions that you can watch “Here” - must mean that they just bring in/embed the Youtube stream. Otherwise is risky/dumb. Outside Watch only on 70.3: WEIRD - why? Overall schedule is minimal: SAD, must be a cost saving thing. Maybe they will add more races later? The “Live Streaming Team” at Ironman HQ must be bored. Let´s hope Challenge and other races up their game.

As Monty Python recommends - I’m looking at the bright side of life. We get all these events streamed for free and the PTO races - that’s a lot of free content that brings minimal, if any return on investment. Add a subscription to TriathlonLive for around 30 dollars a year and we have a lot of quality triathlon race content.

Keep in mind that watching long course triathlon is, to virtually all non-triathletes and most triathletes, like watching paint dry.

It’s a miracle that Outside would want to broadcast a 3.5-hour race with 3:15 of not-much-happening. Asking for a 8-hour one is simply not realistic.

Agree indeed. The point was, they more than cut in half the amount of races streamed. I wonder why?
I would happily pay to watch more races live!

Doubt this was the reason, but find that having some of these races broadcasted means that the people up the front are getting an advantage with the front now that there’d be even more motos to film it (in addition to race referees and potentially local media). However this is nothing new and the issue has probably been mentioned here >1000 times.

It doesn’t seem to be that drastic a cut in races comparison to last year. However, I could be wrong on this.

I pay $11.99 a month for YouTube Premium and there are no commercials and you get access to a larger movie library (also commercial free). Considering I watch YouTube more than any other media service, it’s worth every penny for me. And the funny thing is, many of the major network channels have YouTube channels so I sill watch regular TV content but with no commercials. Win-Win.

The schedule actually looks pretty decent. Quite a few races. Yeah I don’t like the 70.3s on Outside, wish everything was on YouTube.

Agreed. A few years ago you had only two races love streamed! This is 10* that at least

Same. So worth the money.

And you can drop spotify and just use youtube music for the same price.

It’s possible that FB was also putting in $$ to the production budget and if that went away then naturally the overall budget drops and number of races drops.

That is an interesting idea. Would think Ironman paid Facebook to host the coverage, not the other way around.

A thing to consider (but I think we tend to forget): When we are being fed commercials constantly during the transmission, it is not really “free”

I like to watch the races on a Sunday afternoon after a long brick session and just slightly saddened that Ironman didn´t step up and offered even more races this year. Maybe we can have Jack Kelly ask Messick why? 🤣🤣
