Hello all. It’s been years since I posted something here, so with Ironman Kona around the corner, I decided to share some of the photos I have taken during my trips between 1992 and 2011. The first few years I was kind of lost about what to do, where to be and so on. All my knowledge came from reading Mike Plant’s Ironwill. I knew the names of places but didn’t know where they where. I rented a scooter the first 3 years so i was able to move around and get myself familiarized with Kona. As you will see, my photo skills, or my action photo skills to be precise, became better after a few years. So forgive me for the poor quality of many shots, especially on the first few years.

I’m also kind of not the best at sharing stuff on flicker, so it might be a bit confusing for you to navigate. I hope I’m not sharing personal stuff that shouldn’t be public, if I do please drop me a private message so I can remove it.

Here we have the 1994 album. All the race day photos were taken by two different friends as I was racing. Super hot day but not too windy.

Just like in 1994, the 1995 race day pics were taken by friends as I was racing again.
Hotter than in 1994 and very windy.

These pictures are fantastic. I love the giant Tinley inflatable following him in the parade. Thanks for sharing and please upload more years!

Anyone remember the lady’s name # 31? I always loved that red Kilo with the matching Hed wheels and the custom titanium aerobars.

She is the ex wife of the guy that owned Quintana Roo, and also the one at the. bottom of this page… (-; Her name is Julianne White…She got as high as 2nd in Kona, and won several other Ironmans like Canada and New Zealand.

I see myself in a couple of the 93 pics, remember I was sick but raced anyway. I’m sitting on the curb with Welchie and Julie Moss(think she is pregnant) rooting on the runners. I’m wearing the all white Tri shorts…

My first year I happened to be in the same flight to Kona with Karen Sing, the then manager at Quintana Roo when they were in their original office in Santa Ana. She sold me my first wetsuit, a demo suit. On the same flight from LA to Honolulu, the Los Angeles Lakers were on, heading to their pre-season camp. Karen actually got an autograph from Magic Johnson. After the 1992 Ironman race, Karen sold me my first Quintana Roo Superform tri bike, again, a demo that had been used in Kona a few days before.

yeah, pretty incredible that he finished the first time. He was a huge dude in a tiny bike with 650 wheels. I mean, it’s incredible that I finish too!

Yes, I will. I’ve been busy and since my pre 2000 pictures are actual prints, it takes time to scan all of them. I finished rescanning 1997, some from negatives and I’ll add them tomorrow. I found a box with lots of “trinkets” from Kona. I’ll be selling them. I sold all my programs and posters over the last two years. Cheers.
