Next year I plan on attempting my first Ironman, I looked on the WTC Ironman series websites and it show all the 2009 races. My question is do the races usually repeat near the same time frame or weekend the following year (ie 2010).
Which one are you planning to do?
In past years, the WTC IM’s fill up virtually the day after competition (not sure about 2010 races/economy).
You should have a registration plan:
a) be at 2009 event, and register onsite the day after
b) register online (will any slots be available? will you be fast/lucky enough to get one?)
c) Community slot (should be available, cost is double+)
d) Qualify for race (some IM’s have slots available from other races)
e) have somone register for you onsite (Not sure if this option is available anymore)
f) Volunteer at 2009 race, and register next day (THANKS SULLY !!)

I think the best way is to volunteer at the race the year before.
For 2009, LP sold out before it opened on-line, I got into Az on line, but I was worried and I think it filled in about 15 minutes.
