With Ironman Coeur d’Alene next week I thought I would give an update on the water temperature. Currently it is sitting right around 59.5F. Early last week it was up around 61 but we had a couple days of rain and cold early this week which dropped the temperature. With the forecast looking warm and sunny for the next week it should be up in the low 60s come race day. See the website below for more up to date lake temps.
I managed to get a swim in last Sunday and the water was cool but not as bad as a few of the past years. I didn’t wear my hood in the water and was just fine with the hands and feet getting a little stiff but not bad. I’m planning two more swims in the lake just to get used to the temps and should be good to go come race day.
If you are coming in from out of town Lake City Triathlon is hosting a gear check in from 7am-3pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday at independence point (the concrete stair area right at the start beach) for those of you getting in the water
Thanks for posting. When I did CdA in 2012 I was monitoring the USGS site for the water temp, but apparently budget cuts took down their temperature monitors.
There are little babies in their diapers frolicking in the water on the beach…its plenty warm for an IM swim. I mention this only because being from the south and doing this race in 2006 I was so scared of the water temp, as I went down for a practice swim I saw little kids, like barely able to walk playing in the water…I manned up and dove in.

Thanks for posting and for the tip about the gear check. Getting in town Wednesday late afternoon. Planning on getting in a swim Thursday and Friday morning.
As we are getting close to IMCDA 2015, can any locals speak to the water temp? I think I read in another thread that it was warmer than usual? Thank you in advance!
