Ironman Canada will not have Gatorade Endurance

I spoke to the guys at the Gatorade tent at the IMC Expo and they said Gatorade Endurance was not yet approved for sale or use in Canada. They told me that IMC would have regular Gatorade out on their bike and run courses.

I know there had been some talk about Gatorade Endurance at all IM North America events but this does not seem to be the case.

I have not heard this from the official race organizers. Has anyone heard anything different?

I’m not surprised. Gatorade’s Canadian subsidiary is responsible for IMC, and they do not follow suit with what’s served at other IMNA (US) events. At least that’s been my experience in the past.

I’m not surprised. I don’t know the exact details, but it is my understanding that Canada has much tighter regulations on food and nutritional supplement products than the US. For instance, I was told once that a Canadian Powerbar will have different fillers than a US Powerbar.

I remember worrying about getting my Powerbar supply for IMC in 1992 because they had been banned in Canada for a time. I don’t know if it was just the labeling on the package or the ingredients. I think in Canada the package had to say "Nutritional Supplement’ or something on it. Can’t remember. However now all they have to do is put medical marijuana in it and it will get past Canadian customs no problem.

Canadian food laws are odd. Mt Dew has no Caffine in Canada cause any caffinated drink must be dark brown in color.

LOL…I know that’s funny. Do to my line of work we have to travel to Detroit often from New York. So the best way to goe is through Ontario. Every now and then I’ll have someone tell me. “I had three Mt Dew’s driving through Canada on the 401 and I still couldn’t stay awake.” LOL…I tell them you should have stopped at Tim Horton’s instead.

they have mt. dew w/ caffine here now only it’s mt. dew extreme or something. it has the same labelling as redbull. a bunch of stuff about caffine not being safe for pregnant woment etc…blah blah blah
