Less than 2 weeks out! Not much to say other than this will be my first and I am pumped. Looks like weather will be in mid 70’s.
Who’s doing it? What’s your goal time? Is this your first Ironman?

#6 for me. Knowing it is an easy course, soft goal time 11hrs.
Update: looks like we have 15 wind with 30 gust.
Change goal to 11hr.
Update: 20mph 40 gust, this will be FUN!
#24 for me. Targeting 10:30.
Volunteering at the finish line! Good luck to all. I’m really looking forward to welcoming some of you in to the finish. Whether it’s the first or the more, each one is special. Enjoy your day!
Nice! Have you done the course before? Curious what the quality of the roads is on the bike course. Hoping for smooth pavement.

I have not. Coming from St. Petersburg, FL.
Still trying to decide on sleeved or sleeveless wetsuit.
Looking forward to mixing it up out there.
Road is pretty good with the exception of a 3 mile section called: Babel Slough Rd. But it’s under the trees and I use it to stretch and fuel. I’m hoping for sub 14 hours and that all depends on the wind. The rest of the bike was pretty nice.
I live in a town north of Sac that I swear is trying to make the Guiness book of records for the most traffic lights, I can’t find any stretch of road near me that doesn’t have a light every 1/2 mile or so unless I go you to the farm roads and those are freaking dangerous. So getting on the course was amazing since I could stay in aero for a long time.

I have to track you on this “easy” course- I was signed up last year, but obviously storm- did Texas this year instead…
I am a CA native- this area of Sacramento and the farm roads can be sneaky “hard” with the winds and with it being boring at times- pay attention to the roads and the large drainage ditches on the side in case there are big drafting lines and/or your tires get caught in the tractor ruts in the road…
You might be surprised by the swim- the locals warned us so much about the “dirty” water and were telling us to watch out for the syringes sticking out of the mud as we got in the out of the water… (gross)…big homeless population downtown and by the River…
I’m sure the run will be standard and easy- similar looking to Arizona- not as fun as Santa Rosa…
I feel bad for people who are not from California going to do this race expecting “palm trees and beaches” and they didn’t look at the actual MAP and see that Sacramento is basically the most “un-Cali” place I would prefer to do this race…
HAVE FUN tho and I want to track you going sub-11…what is your name?
I will keep you posted. 🫡
As a local, do you have any restaurant recommendations?
I’ll be there. Got a newborn baby so I’m FAR from race fit, but this being full-distance race #9, I think I can gut it out in around 14 hours.
Unfortunately not racing, but I’ll be manning Bike Aid Station #3 calling all of you out for your seats being too low
.
First full for me.
Training was variable. Don’t know if I’m really built for long course. Had a big move in the spring, now coming down the stretch I’ve been fighting injury.
Was shooting for sub 12 hours, now I’ll just be happy to finish!

As mentioned, other than Babel Slough (poor pavement) and the area up around transition (road construction), the course is good. Most of the course is on Highway 84 - straight as an arrow with very good pavement. However, at the south end, there is one part I really don’t like. You cross a bridge over a slough and the pavement transition onto the bridge is practically a curb. This comes right at the top of the one climb (20 feet but steep) as you turn right on to the bridge. Anyone who gets out of the saddle to put some power down and pick up speed could be in for a serious surprise. I expect there will be volunteers waving people to slow down.
If there is no wind, it will be fast. If the winds kick up, it could be brutal. Things have been mild, so here’s to hoping for no wind.
Best of luck to all. I’ll be on the sidelines cheering my wife to her first IM.
IM #4 for me. I’ve done a few practice rides on the course and I’m glad you called out that little climb/horrible pavement onto the bridge, it’s definitely a place to pay attention to. I’ve never managed to ride the course with no wind, it seems to be mostly some form of crosswind which can definitely sap the mental energy. I live/ride in the Bay Area, so having such long, flat, straight roads was a real surprise to me. Anyone from the midwest is going to feel right at home on this course!
Good call out for the crosswind. I rode the course twice, 2nd time I had to turn back because of the gust and 808 front.
Anyone that doesn’t have lodging reach out via PM. I think we have an extra room near the finish line we’re going to cancel. Can possibly transfer it to a STer.
I decided to do it because I believe it is an important part of my mental recovery. The physical injuries sucked for sure, but I was incredibly fortunate to avoid anything more severe than broken leg bones, knee ligament, sutures, and abrasions and road rash all over. Except for the assortment of scars and a busted ACL in my right knee that is still with me since I did not opt for surgery, I was able to heal and recover from all other physical injuries with focused physical therapy in about 6 months. However, it is difficult to describe the range of mental and emotional damage suffered, as well as the inconsistent progress towards healing to the extent that it is achievable. Having participated in a couple 70.3s and an Oly this year, I can say with certainty and much gratitude that the time on the clock is considerably less significant than it was before the crash, and instead, simply being there amongst the throng of competitors and particpants to share part of our journey together - during check-in, at expo, in transition, and of course, on course - all moving towards that finish line however and whenever we get there, is so much more meaningful to me now.
Good luck to everyone out there next weekend, and thank you all for being there! -c
Out due to a covid infection Tuesday
Maybe the third time will be the charm in 23
Good luck all

I’m not doing this race (but have thought about it since I’m local). I did just read that there are concerns about safety along the run course:
Ironman California athletes concerned about running through Discovery Park
