Do we know whether IRONMAN are going to allocate 100 slots for the Legacy programme? Or other number.
Has someone projected the math for the 40 slot and 55 slot events to come up with a total figure eg 2400? Plus 110 Pros. Plus PC/ID/HC div slots.
Do they still do the ebay slots? Man that was a pure goldmine for them, sometimes getting upwards of $60k a slot! And then they could donate it and make it look like it was actually them donating that moneyâŚPure gold Jerry⌠(-;
Didnât they just rename that âIronman Foundationâ or âExecutive Challengeâ or something?
While, I do agree itâs easy to be a cynic and say, âbut Ironman, you arenât donating that money, someone else is.â the reality is, if they charge an entry fee, collect the funds, and then donate it⌠is that any different if they, charge an entry fee, collect the funds, and donate it?
Ultimately, Ironman is collecting funds from someone else by trading on their good name, and leveraging that to inject funds into the community. The money doesnât need to come out of the CEOâs pocket to be a donation from Ironman, right? Itâs actually one of the best ways a brand can get involved in charitable contributions.
Use some product that has an element of scarcity, but also has some underlying utility. And solicit tax deductible donations to purchase said product and use the proceeds to fund a charitable arm. Iâm sure itâs especially useful, because presumable, some portion of the IM Foundation staff ends up doing some work for the for-profit side of Ironman, and their wages get funded through these donations as well. Thatâs where you can really be a cynic. But most charities have a payroll.
Lol, no. We even have an HC category and award winners for this.
My point was that itâs a world championship (pro and age grouper), but we also have other means of entry that arenât directly the same thing as a WC. We also have a stones-type qualification process (legacy), human interest story, exec challenge, sponsor slots, etc. These arenât necessarily less worthy in and of themselves. (ok, maybe exec challenge is less worthy)
Side note: Special Olympics are different than Paralympics. I think you mean para.
Less cynical and more in admiration for those slots. Not often Ironman hits a home run with their ideas, often they fall flat within a week of unfurling. So do they still do those slots? I know they have all their other programs, but dont believe any where tickets cost upwards of $50k
Ahhh ok got it wasnât following your train of thought. I meant all 3 but forgot to include para, good catch.
I got my names mixed up.
So thereâs Ironman Foundation, which just funnels money back into the local community, etc. Those race entries are usually 2-3x more expensive than a normal race and I donât think you can get access to the WC with it.
Then thereâs the Xclusive Challenge which charges 7500 - 16500 per race to enter a special age group that qualifies you for a worlds slot (competing against other XC qualifiers, not in the regular AGs)
I thought both of the above were for charity, but the XC thing might just be a money grab from high earners who want extra VIP treatment.
I do know someone with a very high net worth that was connected to a title sponsor of one of the championships who recently raced Kona, who definitely didnât qualify. Not sure if his entry was gifted as part of the sponsorship or some additional payments. I donât have the nerve to ask!
I build a small website to get the normalized times for all present and past events, feel free to test and provide some feedback => konastandard.com
Also I build an Android app but still in close testing, if anyone want close testing access, please send me message with your email.
Much appreciated!

You invited feedback.
Applause!
Your tables show all the div winners first - absolutely the right way to display.
I suggest that those #1 athletes are better ordered in div order ie M18 - 79 and F18-79 rather than in the performance factored order. And that their actual performance factored order is shown against their name.
Then, as you have done, list the non-winners in performance factored order.
I did this on excel for Copenhagen and only include the link to show you what I mean.
Yeah, thatâs a good point. I have been curious where I would have landed with my IMAZ of 2023 adjusted time wise and he hs it, thank you so much @ingjuanpablo. If pt the AG winners into their adjusted time ranking I move from 9th overall to 11th adjusted. I just looked at a few other AG winners and they also shuffle around a bit. Sine my adjusted time is 8:31, Iâm going with that as my new PR. ![]()
My idea was to show, for all historical events, who would have qualified with the new system. Thatâs why I ordered the winners first, since they have a guaranteed slot, and then the rest sorted by performance pool.
Sure - and I said I thought that correct.
I am merely suggesting that, for the âuserâ of your excellent resource, they will look for their AG div in the list of winners: easiest if sorted alphanumeric, not by performance factored order. Those 20/21/22 div winning athletes should still be listed ahead of the âfirst loserâ.
I like performance ranking better. But it does make it harder to find yourself
Maybe Iâve not been clear.
The first 20/21/22 on the list should be the winners, as @ingjuanpablo has done (and also see my list from the other thread).
After that in performance factored order.
Finding oneself is best done by taking at your divâs winnerâs performance factored time and adding the minutes you were behind that winner (roughly factored if >50) and find that time in the performance factored list: #22 and below.
I see, yeah that also makes sense.
There is search box and you can order mostly for each column, actually you can order by age group, but may I should add a filter by age group
This deserves its own thread.
Does anyone have the slot distribution for IMWI? I went to the ap but itâs not there.
Never mind, I found it
It on the ap info page for thexrace
