Ironman Activewear Extreme sleeveless tri suit

Curious if anyone’s tried this suit and their thought on it. How’s the material/construction? Any issues with the back pockets creating drag on the swim (without a wetsuit over the top)? Are the pockets placed such that they are easy to get stuff in/out with minimal hassles while aero on the bike?

Thanks.

Steve

I think this is probably the same suit that I wear, since they make the Timex team clothing. Material is nice. Especially the lycra. The pad is like a super fine “fur.” So a little different than most suits. Sizing runs a little large compared to most of the “race fit” brands I know (Orca, for example). Probably one size down if you are lean. Or true to size if you are a more “robust” build. Legs are long, which is nice (8" inseam). If I swim no-wetsuit, I do wear a skinsuit over it, since pockets will always create more drag than not, but I’ve never felt like the pockets were noticeable during ow swims in the suit when I haven’t been racing (i.e. no skinsuit over). But the pockets are nice and big. I don’t usually keep stuff in them for the bike, but I’ve been able to get waterbottles out easily when I’ve grabbed an extra.

If the pad would be the one thing that you might not like. I know it’s very personal down in one’s personal area, so that’s where I’d say you’ll either like it or dislike it.

Hey Rappstar,

What “skinsuit” do you wear over your tri-suit? I am trying to find one.

Speedo Fastskin II Hi-Neck Kneeskin. It is ridiculously overpriced, but I got it as a gift. The Nike Liftsuit is probably the cheapest of the fast swimsuits. It is designed for 1-2 wearings in the pool, but I think it might last longer out of the chlorine. Besides that, any of the ITU-style trisuits would work fine and were I too buy a suit to wear over a pocketed suit for racing, that’s what I’d get, perhaps sizing down one size. The Speedo FSII is really, really nice, but not necessarily “worth” the money.

Thanks. I have one coming from AndrewJ and just wanted to doing a little recon for what to expect.

I mostly do Sprint and Olympic distance, so I don’t need/like much of a pad. I’m fine with the pads in both my Desoto and LG shorts, so I’m not too concerned about that. And, if it comes down to it, I guess I can always pop the stitches to lose the pockets (depending on how it’s made/stitched).

We’ll see…
